Its purely financial. Customers gained by being halal will be greater then customers lost due to no bacon products.
+1.Some folks seem to be making this into an 'evil Muzzies imposing their way of life onto us... etc etc' thread when this is nothing more than a business decision.
You or I would do the same if it meant making more £s.

Even as a daily mail reader I can see this as just a business decision to be honest and wont stop me popping in for a Hot Rod every now and again.
What is more interesting is that 2000 people where more bloody worried about a chicken having its wind pipe popped and see this a sign of Islamification rather than the plans to build the Hijab Gate monstrosity in Brick lane.

A strict interpretation of Halal rules require that only Muslims prepare the food.
I can foresee a situation where after fast food chains implement Halal, some Muslims will demand that all staff become Muslim or leave.
Would people be comfortable with that?
Remember that if you become Muslim to keep your job, you cannot stop being Muslim without Islamic law demanding you're killed.
We could end up with a fast food industry that only Muslims could work within.
People have posted it's purely an economic decision by KFC.
How would you feel if the major supermarket chains become Halal for economic reasons?
Pub's are increasingly reliant upon the income from food and restaurants upon wine sales.
How would you feel if they become Halal and stop serving alcoholic drinks?

Clearly because there is a link to Islam/Muslims here, the usual PH suspects are quick to have a pop, but this is an economic decision by KFC. I am sure there will be another opportunity to bash Islam/Muslims on PH soon, so hopefully those posters can turn their attention to that instead. Some patience please, honestly!
Over the last 15-20 years, KFC has faced a number of smaller players (Dixies, Dallas Chicken, Chicken Cottage) which have been able to undercut on pricing. Furthermore, these competitors have used Halal chicken as another USP in their overall offering.
KFC ignored these other firms in the past but realised with the number of competing franchises continuing to increase, it was time to take notice. About 2 years ago, KFC decided to look at its UK strategy and supply chain and made the decision to "go halal". The intention will now be to make its franchises appear as a viable proposition, eventually getting rid of all those smaller players.
