I really don't get the people who have done that. Surely even the priciest hire car isn't that much? Or you could even buy an old banger and leave it in Calais?

Was just thinking the same.....

Worst case, hire a car and ensure OK to travel around Europe - Done

Drive home at your leisure - Done

See what the costs are for a one way hire? - Done and no thanks

Wait until disruption is over - Done

Drive back for a weekend hoon in a hire car (Obviously dont hire a Ka) - Done

Fly home on your return ticket - Done

How much (worst case) would that cost? And also get to visit places that you might never go to oherwise?

We are meant to fly to Marbella on Thursday week for golf and its too far to drive - BUT - if we were there and couldnt get home in the near future, then the answer has to be a one way golf tour up through Spain and France?

Too far? I've done it in 24 hours from Calais, sharing driving with three mates in shifts. Only stopping for a massive lunch and the subsequent massive bathroom breaks, and fuel.

We did decide to stop on the way back though overnight, woke up early for a surf before heading onwards.

Mental.

Various companies offering one way coach travel from Morzine - Calais for 100E. Or Dover for 140E. Two 60 seater coaches left yesterday.

Next available train from Geneva to London is on Thursday, cost £300 one way.

Wife and two daughters have been stuck at JFK since Thursday and I've no idea when they may get back to Heathrow.

My local takeaway isn't complaining though.. hehe

Currently stuck in Sicily, having been due to fly home yesterday.

Now booked on a flight home on Saturday, assuming airspace is open.

In the meantime am now enjoying the sun and the fantastic hotel we are staying in, which has been unbelievably generous in allowing us to stay on at vastly reduced rates.

It can be an acquired taste - I'd take a chill pill, go and explore a bit, and go out on the piss smile

if you like routine order and structure, Honkers is not going to be the best place to be!

Perhaps chill out on Lantu Island for a bit biggrin

Don't you mean Lamma, John? Lantau is that horror that is known as Disco Bay and the crappy Big Buddha?

Mewsta, get yourself to Lan Kwai Fong, walk up to the top and find the Brew House, pull up a chair at the bar, and you'll end up meeting other expats. If Jun's still running the place he'll look after you (avoid Donna the crazy 'Pino barmaid though - great arse, but mad as a box of frogs).
