With asll this talk and speculation of using the Navy to bring Brits home from overseas and the proximity to the election, does anyone think its going to be a vote winner?

I may be being a bit cynical here, but I cant help wondering if they'd be considering it if there wanst' a general election looming.

I see "Dave" has also unveiled an 8 week plan to bring people home.

Probably, the ones that pass 'means testing'.

I couldn't help but think if there were no election looming then there would be no "rescue plan"!!

You watch, Gordon will launch the operation at the exact moment aircraft take to the skies again, such is the extent of his fkwittery...

Now that would be funny.

Load up the ships to get people home slower than they could have done it on a plane!

Perhaps you're right... perhaps that's his thinking all along..... creates big headlines of being a "man who helps the people" when all the time he knows/hopes that the planes will be back flying before he actually has to implement the plan.

Nah, he's not that bright. The only thing you can be sure of with Gordon is that he'll fk it up somehow biggrin

Just one generation? You're very optimistic.

I can't really see how Golden Brown is going to rescue anyone! He doesn't have a boat or a pilot's licence.

mmmm not sure about how bright he is, but i don't doubt those around him are otherwise how else could he have done some of the "great newsworthy" things in the last year or so which have cost him nothing!!

I'm thinking of the "central heating subsidy" - forced the suppliers to discount if the home owner paid for it... cost to him £0, benefit to the old and poor £0 as they didn't have the £000s for a new system or "the great scrappage con".... you can see the headlines now "GB man of action for the people"

I heard on the news that they are sending HMS Ark Royal, Albion and Ocean http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8628878.stm
They can pick up around 1000 each but it's going to take a couple of days to get them fitted and in the right place before they can set sail.

I get the feeling the government would have not done this if there was no election to fight
