Hang on a minute, I am on the DNA database, had my tattoos photographed despite never being charged or convicted of a crime yet when I asked for them to be removed was told to bugger off however these people are able to challenge their inclusion in the sex offender register?

Madness.
Yours aren't related to a crime though.

Whereas this bloke is arguing he's a reformed character and as such the police can't argue he should still be on the register as he's not a risk anymore

I wouldn't take too much notice of the title, that's just me being lazy. As you'll see from the content of the post, I was commenting on the fact that the kid is complaining about being kept on there.
I guess my point is that appeals are a normal part of the criminal justice system and there isn't enough detail in the story to make a judgement one way or the other, even it I had the expertise in child sexual offences, which I don't.

I can allow for the possibility that someone who committed a sexual offence at age 11 should not necessarily have that hanging over them for their entire lives.

Yeah. I'm not so "right-wing" (if that's the appropriate phrase) to disagree... but I'd have to say, 5 years after the event? I'm not so sure the proof is there on which to make a judgement. I mean. He'll be 16 now and still a kid AFAIC.

Well, he would, wouldn't he? It would have been like George Best pleading with his Doctor that he too is a reformed character and if he just gave him that new liver he'd have a chance to prove it.

Yes but it's not just a case of him saying it, he will have to prove to the authorities that he is.
