Cheap LCD, FPGA would give lower chipcount (4?) plus modern SMT and construction methods I think you could make a small and cheap retro product.
No benefit to a lower chip count if it comes at the expense of much much higher cost. I think you could make the entire Spectrum for about £15 these days with modern methods!

I love PH sometimes.

"Sinclair marries a lapdancer!"

"Really? What kind of chipset should we use to build a speccy emulator?"

Now then, SmoothRB, you can scoff at Sir Clive all you like, but when he goes home after a day's hard boffinery, he is going to touch that lady upon her very own knocker.

Her actual knocker.

And you, my envious friend, will not.

Still think Clive's a saddo?

I am sure I read a long, long time ago that the ZX81 was produced for £5.

Fairly unlikely at the time I would have thought.

Sure I mean I guess it is better than being alone and jerking off to lingerie ads in your old age, otoh I thick the corollary is it reveals that ultimately he has failed in adult relationships...to grow etc...assuming his pervious wife(s)?? didn't die of illness or something?

Is the Sinclair company still around? Does it make anything?

Incidentally, does Amstrad make anything computer related anymore or is it just Sky dishes?

Sinclair Research still exists, Amstrad own the rights to the ZX Spectrum.

I was supposed to go over to Sinclair Research to meet Sir Clive last October, as I tried to arrange a date his secretary suddenly stopped responding to my emails frown

The FPGA C64 emulator thing was developed by Jeri Ellsworth (that's her on the right btw):

The more observant of you may note that she is, in fact, a female, with a ladychest and everything. Given that the iphone/ipod touch can emulate a C64 with sprites and fancy sound, I imagine a Spectrum emulator wouldn't be impossible.

Sky bought Amstrad in 2007 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6923517.stm

I suspect you don't work in engineering.

To get back on off topic topic. The Psion 5 could easily run a spectrum emulator so any modern mobile 'phone should easily be capable.

What a sad old loser.
I hazard a guess that you are 25 or less? At that age the thought of anyone shagging over 40 makes you feel a bit queasy?

JFYI an 18 year old girl that looks good to you when you are 19 still looks just as good when you are 3 times older than her.
The problem for older guys is that 18yr girls don't chase men old enough to be their Dad because there are plenty of young guys around who are chasing them.

Men have an inbuilt programme instilled in their brain to shag as young as possible but most have to put up with what we can get or stay with the moaner they/we married in haste!

To answer your original misplaced and immature comment....
If I can get a woman like her I would think I'm a happy old winner! With a woman like her I doubt he will need any blue pills either smile

She can dance round my pole anytime

Like various others, If I'm a similar sad old loser at 69, I'll be chuffed:

1] I will have made it to 69 (probably good going for me).

2] I'll be rich.

3] If I can't find a woman who does the intellectual side & looks decent then I'll be shagging a bird half my age who looks eminently presentable.

4] At the moment, I'm not doing all that well at two out of the above. frown

Yep, she's most likely banging him for bad reasons like his money. So what, I'd wager that a good proportion of supposedly real marriages aren't one iota different.

Not sure how that's relevant really. But there is something sexy about a girl who can program hehe (although it's probably just me)
