If there is a Lib/Lab pact how long will it last before an election is called?

Autumn 2010

Spring 2011

5 years time?

I'd give it no more than a year

It does seem that way. I appear to have given Mr Clegg too much credit, but I guess time will tell for sure.

Agreed.

The clear choice for the benefit of the country is for the LibDems to drop the request to change the voting system, forget about the differences in the EU and Trident, and work with the Tories to fix the country.

By making demands on voting reform they are ignoring the greater good for the country.

By working with the Labour party, they are supporting the party which screwed the country, and asking them to carry on screwing the country and grind it in to the dirt.

I would tend to agree if there is a ConLib deal. If we have a LabLib deal then I think we will be back at the polls before Christmas.

problem is.. the real power is in those people that are behind the scenes and un-elected.

which is a shame, as i would very much like to be one of those people!

yes We desperately need strong leadership. Someone prepared to make the tough decisions that have to be made.

What we will end up with is impotent government and so continues our journey towards bankruptcy.

Someone made the point to me that none of the parties can afford an election any time soon...wonder if that will impact behaviour? I imagine the Tories could raise money easier than the others.

The odds for two elections in 2010 traded as low as 2.0(evens) then drifted to 3.0(2/1) during the ConLib talks and now have shortened to around 2.5(6/4).

Assuming that whatever coalition or arrangement is made, a referendum will have to be held regarding electoral reform. Assuming that it is voted for it will take some time to work through. It would then be churlish for any opposition to try and vote out the incumbent government or indeed for the government to introduce any radical legislation before the new voting system is in place.

So what are we looking at? Eighteen months is my guess. Unless the politicians and civil servants rush something through.

He's a plain barefaced liar. All that he said about the good of the country, stable government, won't deal with Gordoom etc. Infact his negotiations appear to just be " We want PR, WE WANT PR, WE WANT PR!!!!, WE WANT PR!!!!!!, We want PR!!!!!!!!

Correct.

I waivered before I made my decision to vote in this Election of the Conservatives. He and labour have already ensured my support for the Conservatives for years to come by their actions following the results on Thursday.
