Netto admits UK failure and sells its stores to Asda

For any southerners- you may not know what Netto is. Well you know how you are rich so need more than Sainsburys in Waitrose? Well us Northerners are poor so need something below Asda
Thanks for that, I was wondering what a 'netto' was. We don't have an ASDA here on the IOW either so it makes little difference! We do have Morrisions for the poor who don't care and Tesco for the poor with aspirations though.

Yep, Aldi and Lidl are excellent usually
I would always choose a German made/managed/supplied product over anything from the UK, especially anthing inthe mass market such as supermarket food products. At least you're consistent in your prejudices.

ASDA is an awful shopping experience but it is awesomely cheap. Also, mine has a McDonalds in it.

high wycombe? To be honest this is a shame, I quite liked the netto I used to go to in Walkley in Sheffield, certainly shopping there was a lot less traumatic than going to a massive Asda or a Sainsburys, and there prices are exceptionally competitive, particularly for stuff like tins and cereals, used to sometimes pick up some very good booze very cheap as well. The savings I made there used to cross subsidise my trips to Waitrose for the real good stuff.

I do my online shop with Tesco, the Asda online shopping experience is woeful at best.
As a store, the one in Lowestoft isn't that bad to be honest. Their olives from the deli counter are certainly better than Morrisons and Tesco.
All have their place.
I only shop at Tesco because their online service is so good. Couldn't tell you what the store is like because I've never been in the one it's delivered from!
Farmers market for the good stuff

So you would rather pay more for the same product ? Why would Tescos be for poor people with aspirations ?
And the reasons for my comments regarding Morrisons and Tesco apply to the island - the Morrisons are grotty and cramped and the tesco is new and shiny and full of LCD TV's!

Don't know what is about asda, the prices are similar but I just prefer sainsburys every time.
Probably something to do with most Asda customers smelling of sour milk and year old body odour as they shop in their vomit stained white vests showing every ripple in their beer guts, grey "trackie" bottoms showing off more arse than hiding it, and flipflops whilst screaming at their army of promising little footballers who have the discipline of a pack of baboons. That kind of covers it :-)

I won't shop in Tesco on principle
What principle is that?speedchick you're being quite stupid. It will make no difference if you do or don't. You're mugging yourself off. Not them.
I won't shop in Tesco on principle; they're Buy'n'Large, they ignore planning rules n regs, they ride roughshod over suppliers, far too powerful and faceless for anyone's good - they are eeeeevil.
So I won't spend a penny with them.
Sainsburys gets the nod for washing powder, shampoo, kids squash etc - the local baker, greengrocer, cheeseshop, fishmongers, and butchers are used for the fresh... not least because it's noticeably cheaper, but also because it's vastly better quality.
