Can't you just view the web version on your tablet?
I must say that I did think that whilst typing but then why would they bother to do a tablet app? I am suspecting (pure guess) that the app downloads the paper (as a whole) daily and then next day does the same deleting the old one. Hence when you are stuck in the boonies it doesn't matter that you haven't got a web connection and also i suspect that there is far less data usage, but as said i am only guessing as i am a bit of a tecnical luddite!

It doesn't delete the old edition.

The reason you would want a tablet app probably isn't best showcased on many of the newspapers, there are a couple of newspaper apps that are very good (guardian one is good) lots others are more direct ports of the paper with little added function which is not ideal given the tablet was built to make use of swiping, and make things look nice, a pdf of the daily paper isn't the best way of going about this!

The problem for me with the Times paywall is that they do not have a single-use price. For instance, I used to check out the Times for a while before visiting the UK. Even when they put up the paywall initially they had a per-day price which I paid. Then they insisted in subscription since which I never returned. Interestingly their columnists sem to be far less frequently quoted these days as nobody can forward an article as far as I know.

Until they work out the cookie dodge it's a moot point really..!

I'm still not convinced it's worth paying for.

Indeed. We can't be enjoying it for free for long. Can't believe they haven't fixed the cookie dodge yet.

Not worth £20 per year, £0.385 per week? They're not asking much for web/phone access!

yes

Lots of Daily Wail-style "Top ten things you couldn't give a toss about" photo lists, plus the same story being covered almost identically on about 6 different articles to try and make it look busier than it actually is.

Where do you all find yourself going then? I'm not sure on the Tele's numbers but Guardian are seeing record months, month on month on desktop and mobile.

The advertising world don't really understand this move by the Tele, it seems very odd, and even more so now they have changed it again and STILL missed the cookie thing (though I am sure they know about it but rather cannot work out how to get round it?)

Oh, I still go to the Telegraph. It's just not as good as it used to be.

Guardian.

Intentionally misspelling the name is irritating as fk.

It would have to go a long way downhill to be worth less tha 40p per week.

At £0.40 per week it's an easy choice, especially as the main free alternative is The Guardian, and I couldn't face that every day.

I signed up to this last month as I wanted to read an article they had. Then I tried to cancel after about two weeks. Holy fk, they don't make it easy, do they? After scouring Google it turned out you have to email them specifically asking them to cancel. I've since done this twice and only now have I received a response... telling me to ring a specific number and go through the options. aholes.

Loads of companies make it unreasonably difficult to cancel or downgrade services. Ironically it only makes me more determined to do so and not use them again!

Currently on hold waiting to speak to someone. What a joke. If they made it easier I might sign up every now and then when I fancy it but as it is I can't be arsed phoning them to cancel every time.
