A bloke I know who works for the DLO of a large London council gets 39 days holiday a year plus Bank Holidays. He also gets 2 days a month flexi-time which he always takes even though he is never in his office before 9 and always leaves by 3.

So that's 71 days off a year and he's on over 60 grand.

yes they are from Daily Wail, but it is our money .......
How does that make linking to something as atrocious as the Daily Mail OK?
Indeed, the only noteworthy thread regarding that paper is if by some miracle (or more likely horrendous oversight) it didn't include multiple p!ss boilers on a given day.

If any of those last two links are true or even 50% true that summs up the issues that the government need to address IMO!

That public sector one is like a Viz article.

On the plus side though, this bodes well for some HUGE cuts, if they Daily Mail has captured the public mood wiht this sort of thing.

If they've just captured the "Mail Mood" then it's business as usual.

The six month sickie is true. Father in law used to manage a council care unit for caring for those with disabilities. A small number of staff (2 or 3) knew the rules and would be sick for months, come back to work for 3-4 weeks, then go on sick again.

Very hard to dismiss them too. But, they were only leeching £15k or so per year.
My best man for my wedding used to work with someone at Winfrith UKAEA who did just that. He went off sick with "stress" for six months. In that time he was spotted by his workmates working as a doorman in one of the local clubs. One day before he would have gone onto half pay, he returned to work claiming he was all better.

Apparently this was quite commonplace.

Just a few decades ago, if you lived in social housing, people would come and look at your property, and the rules dictated that if you had possessions that were worth anything, the authorities would force you to sell them to contribute towards your rent.
Of course, no one is saying we should return to such harsh attitudes, but the system does seem to have swung far too far the other way.
No one? I am.

In fact I'd return to even harsher values than that and say if you can't buy, build or rent your own house, stay with relatives, and if even your family won't have you sleep under a bridge.

That's even less believable than the first article.

As many people pointed out in the comments, why would a family from Portugal go straight to the top of the list? If it's blatent fraud and the author knows it, then why hasn't he done anything about it?

Interesting point at the beginning of the planning one

Our department has 60 employees and - until last Tuesday - a budget of £22million
That's 366,000 per employee. That is HUGE. What they hell are they doing with it all?

well i don't vouch for its accuracy all i will say is the link was forwarded to me by a good friend who has an 850k flat in w1. the 2 other flats in 'his' house are both let to foreign council tenants. the council pays 700quid a week. each. i'm going to go with blatent fraud.

If my company of 20 people could turn over a third of that we'd be on a damn good wicket.

And yet if you listen to them bleat about the price cap on rent, they are claiming its unfair that £400 is the limit as it means the scroungers cant live in affluent areas in the million £ flats and houses that they dont pay for... all completely unfair isnt it... shame
