Half a stone a year, allegedly.

Question is though, could it be due to having to walk everywhere as you can't rely on it or due to the nasty diseases you get from the other denizens?

When using pubic transport and inevitably get stabbed by some chavs, you will loose about two litres of blood on average which is about half stone.

Good point, I missed the most likely cause of weight loss on the tube.

Taking the tube, bus or tram can sufficiently increase your blood pressure, thereby eliminating any health benefits you may gain by losing half a stone.

You might also lose your sanity as a bonus.

After 2 years college commuting on Telford's finest 44 Bus, which also doubles as a magnet for the homeless ,chavs and a hospital commute bus , it's not great.

And being pick pocketed was such an unpleasant experience,it encouraged me to just ride a bike there instead ,which probably made me lose a few pounds

Of course you lose weight, public transport travels from where you aren't to where you don't want to be, forcing you to walk.

Not exactly praise of a public transport system.

Because being stuck in endless traffic jams or having to deal with numpty drivers is relaxing?

After a year of using public transport, i definitely feel thinner .. but i suspect part of this is due to observing the lard-buckets who heave their fatty bums on and off the tubes and buses. The 85 Bus to Putney is a particular favourite of mine for observing whole families of fatties transporting bags of cheap cake from ASDAs directly to their lovely estate in Roehampton.

Most times, yes. Much for relaxing than being squeezed into a tin can with a bunch of other sweaty people in the sweltering heat.

More like losing the will to live.

The real key to using public transport is the ability to control your working hours and thus use the system at appropriate times.

Even when I was younger I would travel into the City an hour before I needed to as it ensured a far more pleasant journey. On leaving you either stay in Town until around 7pm or bail when the market shuts at 4.30

In essence, if you find you are traveling at a time when there are lots of girls with too much make-up on then you are travelling at the wrong time and are going to have an unpleasant experience.

I thought that two of the key reasons was that using public transport is so expensive that you would no longer be able to afford food and takes so long that you wouldn't have time to cook and eat it anyway. Well that's my experience from round here, but then I don't live in a city where it *may* make sense.

Total nonsense, I'm a fat bd and I use public transport to commute.

Don't see many other fatties though, given I wake up 6 hours before they do...

Amazing the number of very large people you see on public transport.
As I see it..hanging around on a train platform (or onsite cafe) munching crisps while waiting half an hour sortof kills that idea.

It always amazes me how the London Tube Trains do not have air conditioning I have come out of many tube journeys dripping with sweat.

Public transport, trains, irrespective of class, buses and coaches are always dirty in this country.
Why?
At least in my car I can travel in a clean environment.
