The biggest danger is taking Clark seriously. He was an abject apology for a Home Secretary who had to be replaced by, of all people, Howard.

So Clarke reckons habitual disqualified drivers shouldn't be locked up.
What the f*** else are you supposed to do with them? Chop their hands off so they can't drive?

I don't want people who aren't licenced or insured to drive to be able to carry on doing so safe in knowledge that it's too expensive to lock them up. How long before one that should have been sent to prison wipes out an innocent family?

Making out like it's a minor crime doesn't wash with me. A car is deadly in the wrong hands.

The US has tougher prisons than ours and the re-offending rates are higher. Norway has nicer prisons and the re-offending rates are lower. All you do when make prisons hellish is to make criminals harder and scarier than they were already.
