I watched the video of Apocalypto last night and I'd say the Mayans were more civilised than the Iranians. I despair of the region when I read stuff like this. On another thread someone suggested turning it all into glass. Maybe he's got a point?

No idea how accurate this is but according to a Sky article they've stoned 5 people in the last 4 years, and executed 335 in 2007.
