Visit Tehran. Capital city of sensible haircuts.

NY Daily News said:
The mullet is definitely not in fashion. And if you live in Iran, it's also illegal.

Along with ponytails, elaborate spikes, and long hair, Iran has issued a list of approved Muslim hairstyles in effort to ban the country of "decadent Western cuts."

A photo catalogue of acceptable styles will be published and promoted this month at the 'Modesty and Veil Festival,' according to London's Telegraph.

"The proposed styles are inspired by Iranians' complexion, culture and religion, and Islamic law," said Jaleh Khodayar, who is in charge of a festival.

Short and conservative haircuts have been given the thumbs up. Hair gel is okay, but only if it’s used sparingly. But men's eyebrow plucking? Forget about it.

In recent years, Iranian police have raided barber’s shops offering "Western hairstyles." Their owners are warned to not repeat their actions.

First time violators will receive an unflattering short-back-and-sides cut. But serial offenders face stiff fines. And barber shops catering to western styles, can be shut down.

The plan is being implemented together with the University of Tehran and the local association of barbers "in order to avoid inappropriate hairstyles and encourage an Islamic culture."

Conservative clerics have called for action against un-Islamic dressers—including women in short coats and men donning low-rise jeans. Ties are also considered a symbol of Western decadence.

Earlier this year, an Iranian cleric blamed women who wear revealing clothing for causing earthquakes.

Hojjat ol-eslam Kazem Sediqi also said promiscuity causes natural disasters.

"Many women who do not dress modestly lead young men astray and spread adultery in society which increases earthquakes," he said.
In the interests of fairness and balance (a first for PH).smile

Iran's culture ministry has produced a catalogue of haircuts that comply with Iranian culture and Islamic law. Here's a guide to the rules of religious hair.
Muslim hair

Muslim tradition requires that women should wear their hair long and conceal it beneath a hijab, which covers the head and neck. Men are forbidden for letting their hair grow long in a way that would resemble a woman’s. It is considered devout for men to emulate the prophet Mohammed by growing their beards long and trimming their moustaches.

Sikh hair

Sikh tradition requires its followers to keep Kesh – the practice of allowing one’s hair to grow naturally as a symbol of respect for the perfection of God’s creation. The hair must be combed twice daily with a Kanga – a small comb which must be kept on the person at all times – and tied into a simple knot known as a Joora. The knot is usually held in place with the Kanga and covered with a turban.

Jewish hair

Many orthodox Jewish men wear their sideburns long and curl them. This is in recognition of the commandment in the Torah: “You shall not round off the peyos [sideburns] of your head”. Most married women will cover their hair, usually with a hat, bandanna, or wig.

Christian hair

The Bible dictates that for a man to wear his hair long is a “shame unto him”, while women are encouraged not to cut their hair. Men are required to leave their heads uncovered while praying, while women are told to cover their hair when in a place of worship. Eastern Orthodox monks and nuns are not permitted to cut their hair after ordination – except in the case of the monks’ tonsure, a patch of shaved scalp meant to symbolise the cutting off of self-will.

Buddhist hair

Buddhist monks shave their hair to emulate Siddharta, the Buddha. Siddharta cut off his long hair – traditionally a symbol of royalty – as a renouncement of all his wordly goods before he became enlightened. Thai monks also cut off their eyebrows.

Hindu hair

Young Hindu boys shave off their hair as a measure of austerity at their Upanayana, or coming of age ceremony. Traditional Hindu women generally keep their hair braided, but leave it loose when they are menstruating.

Rastafarian hair

Rastafarians wear their hair in dreadlocks – formed by allowing the hair to grow naturally without cutting, combing or brushing it and washing it only with pure water – in recognition of the Nazarite vow from the Bible: "All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head”. The length the locks is treated as a measure of wisdom, maturity, and knowledge.

It's hypocritical, I've got a picture of Allah and he clearly has long hair.

How long before we see hoards of mullet wearing Iranians claiming asylum in the UK on the basis of hairstyle related persecution?

Surely God either likes long hair or he doesn't? So it must stand to reason that some of these groups of twunts are going to roast in hell for having the wrong haircut. Same with hats I guess, various bands of religious nutjobs will be burning for all eternity because they were told to wear/not wear a hat in church by their leaders.

Unless of course either God really couldn't care less about folk's hats or hair, or more probably, he doean't exist in the first place.

As usual God is used to control the populous. I understand some pople with what is deemed to be western hair styles a being arrested by the Irian police on the streets and then taken to the police station for a quick short back and sides plus a fine.

Well now I take everything he says seriously, how can one argue with such wisdom? hehe

We used to have a drunk Yugo barbar that would give you a crew-cut and then show you the mirror to see the back of your head, stuck to the mirror was a picture of the back of Burt Reynolds' head, it used to crack him up.

The reason why Iranian men have moustaches is so they can look like their mothers.

From "The Book of Beatle" (circa 1963)
"The hair shall be allowed to grow over ears as a mark of respect to the God 'Decibullus' so that his great works may reverberate within the head. Men shall sweep their head forward to show their repudiation of the Tribe of Rocker' by hiding the top of the forehead and must shun all hair dressing products that give the wearer's countenance false shine and volume".

The Church Of Elvis
"Adherents must sweep their hair upwards and backwards in a swirl of tonsorial majesty to emulate the waves of the ocean and afix it with grease from the oil of the Bryl Cream plant. Homage is paid to the anus of the duck with an upward swirl of the gathered hair at the rear.

Not just Iranians then.
