I think it is terrible how much information is available on the web...you really have to be careful what you write...

And in other news, a mysterious organisation has been putting books on people's doorsteps, filled with the names, addresses and telephone numbers of thousands of nearby residents!

The Facebook story is basically a non-story, but because it's on the internet has filled some column inches during the silly season.

It's a lot more than just a telephone directory, Facebook is not just a collection of names and addresses. It's also a repository of what people are doing, photos, trips, what they are doing right now. eg. "Oh what's that Susan from 14 New Street, Leeds is enjoying her holiday in Crete at the moment, that's nice her place will be empty and I fancy that new 42" plasma she talked about getting last month.

If someone is stupid enough to leave that sort of information PUBLICLY AVAILABLE on Facebook, then they deserve everything they get. It's trivially easy to set the privacy settings so a bare minimum is available (if any at all).

User error. Not news-worthy unless it is to point and laugh at more people who would undoubtedly say "it's not my fault..."
