Mark Hurd has resigned as boss of computer giant Hewlett-Packard (HP) following a sexual harassment probe, the company says.

Mr Hurd stepped down from his positions as president and CEO after an investigation into claims made against him by a former HP contractor.

The company said its sexual harassment policy had not been violated but its standards of business conduct were
This is the guy that asked us all to make cuts to our sallary following his own selfless act of cutting his own base salary. He failed to mention the multi millions he recived in bonuses and other payments would be unaffected though....($42 million in bonuses anyone?) :-)

Seems Mark may have failed to adhere to the HP code of Business conduct. Thats the one thats rammed down our throats all the time. I've always said that its cheif executives that need such a code, as us engineers live in the real world and have a proper morale standard that keeps us honest. We really dont need lawyers to write a book about how you should behave in business.

Hoisted by ones own petard......

I'd heard that the other party was regularly paid a LOT of money from HP funds - over and above her contract rates!

This is the bit I never understand. Why do people who are disgraced or ruin a company STILL get their pay off?!??!

And because its in their contract. If you were sacked near the end of the month would you expect the company to keep the last of your wages?

There's a month's notice in my contract. However, were I to get turfed out due to gross misconduct, or reach an agreement to go now or face same, I'd be out of the door, directly out of the door, do not pass go, do not collect forty million quid.

This bloke fked up and fked up hard. He should have been unceremoniously escorted off the premises, like would have happened with just about anyone else in the same company.

Completely agree. Just had to read that he was allowed to resign. Yet they have a list of things he could have been sacked on.

Only people in power can truely abuse their position. Yet the people that actually deliver for the customer get treated very differently when they transgress.

But surely their private behaviour is not reflected in their business practise soooo once the damage has been done by the press reporting it, just throw them out the door......

If someone is an MD or higher, I would hope they are already constrained by non-disclosure agreements etc.. so if chucked out the door without any more cash they have no cause of complaint...

General feeling in the office is that people feel sorry for him and are concerned about the financial hardship he and his family will now have to endure.
