Remember we gave the world David Icke.
That we did, but that said America gifted us Jeff Rense and Alex Jones.
We've our fair share of 'protocols of the elders of Zion'- istas although they gravitate to the National Socialist BNP

Do these two like purple and believe the Queen is a shape shifting alien reptilian from the bowels of the Earth? If not Icke has then whupped IMO

Torquiose, not purple hehe

Check their websites, Jones is hot on the NWO stuff and Rense pretty much publishes anything and everything.

Burn a Korean?
Burn a Korando?

Both Korean and Korando, and vehicular. Triple PH bonus!

And worth burning.
Would attract worldwide support.
Burn the Kyron and the Rexton whilst at it.

Would offend the Musso-lim world maybe.

Can we do the same with the Vatican and the Wailing Wall?

But the point is neither Jew or Christian is going to get worked up over the burning of their holy books in the same way.

the Muslim tradition treats the Koran as more than just a book - the difference can be seen in the Prophet cartoon protests

There was an interesting discussion about this on Newsnight last night.

I'm no fan of religion, especially the Ahbrahamic ones, but in this instance its pretty clear that the Pastor is just having a needless pop at an entire religion, whose adherents are in the vast majority, peaceful.

It's nothing to do with attacking extremism, its just the same kind of bigotry displayed by the Wahabi inspired extremists responsible for 9/11 7/7, Madrid and Bali.

Still, will be interesting to see how the story unfolds if he does indeed go ahead on Saturday.

To sum up, should the Pastor be free to burn the books? Yes

Should there be laws in place that allow the state to punish someone who intentionally causes incitement to hatred or violence? Yes.

Had to laugh at that powerhouse of news reporting that is AOL.com

"Mr Blair added his voice to those of the White House, the Vatican, the commander of international forces in Afghanistan General David Petraeus and film star Angelina Jolie, who all urged pastor Terry Jones to call off his protest."

Glad to see Angelina is up there as someone with a key vested interest in this...

I can agree wholeheartedly with this - even if we represent perhaps two distinct philosophies, yours I assume largely secular, mine admittedly Christian.

But I while the majority of muslims are not engaged in a war with the west, I would say the majority of muslims - certainly in the muslim world, don't differentiate between us ie the secular western society and Judeo-Christian values, and more importantly a significant minority react with hatred and violence to acts which the majority of other world religions - especially Christianity accepts/endures

Very, very good.

We were out in Florida last week, and were on our way back from Busch Gardens on friday evening. Were somewhat surprised at the number of churches that seemed to be dotted all over the place. And on one street corner, a bunch of religious protesters, mumbling something about jews and zionists. Didn't care about them, but the vacant looks and badly written signs put them straight down as idiotic nutjobs.

Does America have more idiotic nutjobs than almost anywhere else in the world???
I think that distinction is held by Hampshire. wink

Indeed, I am coming at this from a secular view

Incitement to violence? Isn't that the whole point? For most people such a thing doesn't exist.

Yes but equally I don't see the difference between saying st and sugar in anger - but some people swearing is a taboo, likewise I wouldn't give a toss if I was called whitey, but the N word is not allowed.

Some things work people up, it's only polite and civilised not to cause offence when it's not necessary.

Denied a burn permit by the fire dept. That can get him locked up for an illegal open fire. I just hope the Muslim community takes note of this example of how other religions police their own.
