How big a navy do you want? 25, 50, 100, 500?

Big enough to do its job, with just 25 ships it is difficult to see how it will protect Britain's sea-lanes or project power overseas. If anyone wishes to do anything against British interests - Falklands? Sierra Leone? - we will be virtually powerless to stop them.

So you want us to be able project power anywhere in the globe? News Flash, we are broke and wars are almost as expensive as chavs.

I think there is only going to be 2 wars from now on, the clever ones with long range nuclear weapons, and the scummy ones in sand dunes against terrorist types...

We have a thriving chav underclass population to support, I am surprised we can afford 2 ships hehe

To put it into context, the GREEK navy will be approximately twice as large as the Royal Navy.

The Telegraph has published dozens of stories about what the Forces will and won't get. Very few, if any, have been accurate. Best to wait until the SDSR is published rather than getting worked up about stories dreamed up by journalists.

This story could be the Navy trying to show how much they're suffering or the Army trying to show how stupid they're being over the carriers. Who knows.

But most are just tiny coastal ships designed to keep the Turks at bay.

We will only get one carrier though. That is pretty much guaranteed now.

Let's not forget the type 45 destroyers and new air craft carriers are absolutely top of the range kit.

What difference does it make that the enemy has four times as many ships if you'll sink all of them before they come into range?

The MOD budget is bloated and the nature of warfare has changed. It's sad but it strikes me as a perfect place to make "cuts".

We also have partners in nato, and the EU, UN etc. Wars seldom seem to be fought by individual nations anymore.

I wouldn't trust the stats coming out of Greece if I were you...

With only 25 ships, would it even be possible to protect our own fishing grounds?

Yes I know technically we don't have any of our own fishing grounds any more bla bla bla

We still have a few old aircraft that can just about manage to fly out over our fishing grounds. Rumours of the Hendon Wellington being taken up to Cosford to be repainted in Coastal Command colours for this job are not true, not very anyway.
