p.s Why do all students sound the same when they speak? eek
I always wondered this and did look into it (sad I know).

Comes down to universities attracting people from all over the place all with very different accents, some of which can be very difficult to grasp. Very quickly, many students tend to gravitate towards a common accent that all can understand.

See. You don't need to go to uni to do research!

I think police should just open fire with high caliber weaponry on the soap dodgers...

I thought this would be a contentious topic.

I've shared my view on students, Universities and 'education, education, education' before.

I think theres a few others on here who would agree with me here - Tenner says the majority of those students are doing Arts, media, social subjects, PR, sports or suchlike.

Because the ones doing Medicine, Engineering, Science, Technology, English and Maths, are all at home or in the library doing some actual work.

What's the betting that if Labour got in to power at the next election that they would scrap these new policies? very slim

Just seen an interview with the Police commissioner - tough job that, damned if you do, damned if you don't. But the general gist of what he was saying seemed to suggest that any easing off of police actions in these sort of circumstances, since the protest of two & a half yrs ago, now could do with a fresh look.
My own personal view on this? Granted, it seems that a minority of anarchists have got in among them and whipped up a stupid frenzy. I and my OH are in our seventies, still in full-time employment, and our taxes will go towards paying for the damage these bds have caused/are causing. For this aspect of it, I am fking fuming; also I am appalled and disgusted by the sight of the damage to the reception of Millbank Tower. Whatever cause, no need for that. We as a nation are too soft on thugs and while prison is the holiday camp principle, there is no hope of reform of the society we now have. Christ, in my day at the age of most of these people they would have got a good beating for what they are doing. No sense of right from wrong, and from where I am looking, no chance of it either.
Rant over (for now, until the bleeding hearts brigade kick in.....wont be long)

It really is time to get tough with these thugs.
Are you talking about the police or the students?

Well, the really stupid thing is that I read in the Economist that along with various other Conservative 'fairness' policies, the new scheme is actually fairer than the old one.

But, as the level-headed, analytical people they are, students see it the same way the rest of the population see it:

LESS MONEY? = BAD

Just seen a clip where someone hit a policeman with a plaquard (Sp?) and he just dived at him with a very good punch.

The other policemen around him had to pull him off the guy. I fear he may be in trouble...

Should get a kicking for it.. The Police are there to be respected, they're the ones that keep the law in this country.. Why do these Job Dodgers think they can do this kind of stuff.

If you can't afford uni, don't go. Simple. Either get another job or borrow the money if you can, if you can't get out there and work for your coins. They do bugger all at uni anyway other than drink. Wasters.
