Sad thing is, there were always pretty good relations up there between the Dundonians and the incoming Muslims, had been for years. Ask Penny Lope, I think she is from that neck of the woods. Overnight, they managed to piss a lot of that goodwill down the drain. Not liking a cute puppy? Christ, might as well burn the Union flag, it's so un British.

Chainguy - I have friends from Dundee. This thing was blown out of all proportion by the numpty councillor. AFAIK there was not a single official complaint made to the police. Reading the articles I couldnt see any MOPs being interviewed or sounding off. To me it seemed very much like "Christmas being banned" - when you look for the substance behind the headline there isn't much.

I remember at the time, they interviewed a couple of people on the Scottish news (Muslim shopkeeper I think?) and he was one of the ones not happy with the doggy picture, but I totally agree, it was mainly a select few just looking to take the hump.

I have friends who work and live in Dundee as well, and they said the main antagonists were some people from the faith school up there and the local hard line. I think the average Muslim bloke was as baffled and embarrassed as the rest of us.

I was on a night out up there about a week after it was on the news, and was talking to a Muslim guy in the fast food shop afterwards. His wish was that those causing trouble would bugger off back to where they came from, and stop ruining things for the rest of them!

I loved that, it summed up in a sentence why Dundee is a great place. Non nonsense, 'say what you mean, mean what you say' people with a sense of humour. Brilliant!

If so why was there such a crisis over the Christmas cards with a puppy on them sent out to folk - including Muslims - in Scotland a couple of years ago?

From memory didn't they have to try to recall them, offer a substitute and apologise for the great insult caused by featuring the image of the filthy brute*?

From a post below seems I misremembered the story (postcards not Christmas cards) but the point remains.

Enough idiots complained because a picture of a puppy was being pushed through their letter boxes to despoil their hallowed hearths - I suppose they take it a bit like the rest of us might take dog st being posted in - to make it a story. So, misattributed but not false.

Oh, rudeness wise I'll be as rude and disparaging to the nonsense people believe and act on as I like; others' sensitivities doesn't stop you being 'rude' so a certain stench of hypocrisy here old mate.

Fair enough, maybe 'lack of god' is a major factor as to why your fellow countrymens offspring behave in such a manner. It is pretty obvious that other 'religious' countries simply do not have this problem. Why is that? Could it be that the current system does not educate said offspring on these morals? I know your ging to fire back, yeah but you got bombers. Simply answer to that, they are misguided by someone unlike these kids who are not guided at all (or so it seems to be). Maybe bring back Chritianity to this country could help things out a little.

Perhaps "lack of god" should be included. A lot of the "lack of" issues in your post - for me and a lot of my generation it was the religious education that addressed these issues and laid the foundations of our character.

It is merely used to highlight said demographic of people. If you can find a better more universally understood term then i'll be happy to use it. I was at a Sikh wedding, and the wee guy beside me was going on about how wonderful it was for all the religions to be together, it transpired he was the bride's boss, and Muslim.
