Now that Ark Royal has been officially retired and the Harrier squadrons disbanded.... How long will it take for Argentina to make another move on the Falklands?? We wont have much chance of defending the islands....

and i doubt the french would want to lend us the kit.....(even though they signed a 'deal')

A little less likely after the news on the drilling work that has been going on.If they find oil then I'll estimate 2 years.

I will also doubt they will make the same mistakes as last time by avoiding the Harriers. They will launch an all-out air assault on the resident Typhoon force - win the air way, win the ground war.

You forgot the Typhoons that are permanently based at Stanley, they alone are more than a match for anything the corned beef munchers can throw at the Islands.

The Argentine airforce is in the same state as it was left in 1982. They would have better luck in shipping over some of our dirty students to smash the Typhoons up with bricks and placards.

If I was them I'd wait till our Harriers have actually been sold on or scrapped.

So another couple of weeks then!

No but they do have a love of the Ford Falcon: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-1196...

Presumably we won't deploy the Rapier missiles this time now we know they don't work in hilly locations (d'oh).

They may be 1980s vintage but with sidewinder and a selection of 500kg gravity bombs then they could still overwelm the ground and air defences.

Never heard of any Argentinan cars, and if I remember correctly all their planes are semi obsolete Dasault Mirages (French)

I have just returned from a talk on Falklands air power and Argies have considerably less air power than they had in 1982, in fact they have the smallest military force of any of the South American countries, it seems they have also been going through their own version of SDSR. The talk outlined how different things could have been had they utilised their two refuelling tankers in a smarter manner, some of their planes had an operational time of 10 mins once they had got to the theatre of operation.

There is a standing CAP at Mount Pleasant, they wouldn't be able to approach the islands without being detected.

Regardless, it's a moot point. There is a submarine on constant patrol in the area with the ability to throw cruise missiles around Argentina with impunity. They know that. You may get some sabre rattling, but that's about it.

Concorde is surprising small.. Maybe we could employ some sort of catapult held by two people...

In all seriousness.. UAVs.. IIRC we have a few Reaper UAV that can sit up in the sky and wreak havoc.. Imagine them on a shift pattern along with the CAP and the UWCFU (Under Water Country fker Upper) that is surely lurking like some PH member....
