Gordon Ramsay doused in petrol and held at gunpoint as he tried to uncover illegal shark fin trading for a new TV show.

In the Daily Wail write-up I read yesterday he also apparently jumped off a ship when the workers were not looking, swam under the hull, found a bag tied to the keel, swam back up to the boat, threw it on board and shark fins spilled out.

You think i'm joking, that this is even more far-fetched than the petrol story?

'In a quiet moment I dived from the boat to swim with marlin. I swam under the keel and saw this sack tied to it. I opened it and it was full of shark fins, huge ones from 20-year-olds. How they do it is quite upsetting. They shock them with an electric prod, but the shark’s still moving while they cut it up and throw it back dying into the water. No wonder they wanted to hide the evidence. The minute I threw this bag on deck, everyone started screaming and shouting.

If it was as bad a situation as he makes out, we would have heard about it straight afterwards as "news".

As it is, I'm chalking it up as a bit of sensationalist PR for his new TV show which is on a telly near you in a week or two.

Doubt it have you seen the number of threads on here about the price of fuel....Nobody in there right mind would waste it pouring it over a "celeb" when it could be better used in an IC engine??

Going on the celebrity legends thread, I'm not sure it was petrol he was doused in.

Doesn't Ramsay serve fois gras? That's a bit unsavoury if he's getting on his high horse.

You're only appalled because when all of the sharks are gone the title of "most cold-blooded and efficient eviscerating and disembowelling creature on the planet" will shift from "shark" to "lawyer".

So Jaws was wrong? (shark has to keep swimming otherwise it drowns).

You do realise they aren't force fed any more? It has been like this for many years.

He is irritating, granted, but guns and fire are a bit extreme. I think a simple kick up the jacksie when he wasnt looking would suffice.

I've just had some on brioches (with a glass of Rieussec 1999). It was delicious.

Geese and ducks are not endangered species. Getting an over-large meal of corn every day is not the same as a shark having its dorsal fin sliced off while still alive.

I've seen plenty of reef sharks lying on the bottom.
