Sounds to me like they couldnt face admitting another mess up with their average winter predictions and it certainly wouldnt of gone in line with their MMGW position...

Claiming after the event that you knew about something before it happened is the action of a scoundrel. I generally take the BBC/Met Office forecast as being roughly the opposite of what's actually going to happen, and it seems to be a pretty accurate rule of thumb. The BBC/Met Office does that itself in fact, regularly changing its forecast less than a day before the forecast period. Hopeless. Used to know a pilot operating out of Northolt, the forecasts he got from the airport were bang on several days ahead, he laughed at the Met Office stuff.

Except they didn't as they no longer issue public long range forecasts. The allegations that they did come from a few illiterate people in the media don't understand probability and chose to misuse a single global probability map based on raw data like it was a forecast for London tomorrow in order to sell papers.Or as I call it, fraud followed by lies.

A government agency which is paid for with OUR taxes decides that it won't tell anyone that the weather is about to f
k up the entire country because everyone on the internet and in the Daily Soovy was nasty to them because last summer they couldn't have a barbecue?
I'm sorry but there is a little difference between not being able to get pissed, a suntan and food poisoning in your back garden & and the kind of major disruption that the snow caused. I'm sure all those people who spent three days sleeping on a floor in Heathrow were really happy to know that no one told them that their journey was going to be wasted because the Met Office didn't want to be embarassed.
You might almost think that was a pretty stupid reason for not warning everyone but when you understand that nearly all of the senior management of the Met Office are signed up to the MMGW agenda the real reason why this wasn't revealed might become clear.
If its a surprise then it can be written off as weather. If its forecast, like the MMGW is and if it then comes true, then by their rules of their own propaganda it must be climate.
Inquiry. Sackings. Now please.

The Met Office is a disgrace. Really and truly. They charge the public for anything more than absolutely basic information (aviation and maritime services) despite the fact they are a publically funded body and their accuracy can best be described by posting a picture of a large pile of dog mess.
They either panic and produce forecasts that err so far on the side of caution as to make them look stupid when armageddon doesn't occur, or now it seems they simply won;t tell anyone what they've worked out in case someone questions the accuracy of their prediction...

They should just do their job and tell people what the weather is likely to be with the best level of accuracy they can muster. Don't filter it and tell people what you think people want to hear, just get it right in the first place.
Since the met office got rid of forecasters in various locations and now rely on their fancy super computer, then their forecasts are pretty cruddy. I've spent my life staring at weather reports and forecasts, one thing I have definately noticed is a reduction in accuracy overall.

The thing is that the guy who is in charge at the Met Office is one of the most fervent disciples of MMGW. Because of this he forces the weather models (not the bints) to include a theoretical increase in CO2 levels combined with the theoretical view that increasing CO2 leads to increasing temperature.
He is the precise reason why the Met has been going wrong on its long term forcasts and has indeed stopped making them.

So which is it: they issued the forecast or they didn't? Given that the Met Office stated in March they would stop issuing the forecast and that nobody can provide a first hand source of said forecast this year (apart from the hysterical media and inreputable rivals), perhaps they didn't actually publish one!Globs said:

The only thing pathetic here is the way the media (and some posters on here) blame everyone but themselves. They slaughter the Met Office when they (the media) fail to interpret the forecast properly and demand the Met Office stop issuing the forecast. But then slaughter the Met Office for not giving them the opportunity to slaughter the Met Offfice again and state it is now a "public duty" to issue seasonal forecasts. And when they get caught out lying, the media still expect people to believe the next time round. The Met Office just can't win in some eyes.
Meanwhile those organisations who understand how to interpret long range forecasts (government, insurance companies, energy traders, etc) continued their contracts with the Met Office. Not that it would be necessary as any idiot following the weather could see it would be a cold winter again.
