Whilst I'm not a huge fan of his political views, I'd far rather his honesty than that spouted by most politicians. If nothing else he's got a chunk of the common man talking about politics when otherwise they wouldn't.
Problem is, mate, that whilst his views were doubtless honestly held when an angry young man, he's a great example of how much less angry those young men become when they get fking rich.Jasandjules said:
Feel sorry for him? Why? I hate people who are "socialists" but who are rich.
Add Tracy Emin to that list, who was recently moaning about how much tax she had to pay!http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2009/oct/04...
Tracy Emin said:
"I'm simply not willing to pay tax at 50% … I reckon it would mean me paying about 65p in every pound with tax, National Insurance and so on."
However, the artist said that the Treasury's 50% tax rate – which will be imposed from next April on those earning more than £150,000 a year – was not the only factor in her decision.
"So much here is simply not working now," she said. "The taxes are too high, there aren't enough incentives to work hard, and our politicians have put me off. We're paying through the nose for everything."
Socialists... all about the wealth redistribution... except when it's their wealthHowever, the artist said that the Treasury's 50% tax rate – which will be imposed from next April on those earning more than £150,000 a year – was not the only factor in her decision.

Why do you think she is a socialist?
Ed Vasey thinks otherwise.
"Neither artist offered a response to Mr Vaizey's comments, despite several approaches. Mr Vaizey did manage to cite one artist – Tracey Emin – among those on his walls whom he regards as Conservative supporters. "She is still hanging on by her fingernails," he said."

FROM bad girl to Tory Girl? Tracey Emin, the enfant terrible of the Britart movement and long-term Labour voter, is poised to switch to the Conservatives at the next general election.
Sorry, I was wrong, she's nothing more than a fking hypocrite.groak said:
Billy Bragg has got a huge nose. That may mean he also has a huge cock, but one thing's for certain. His music's shyte, which is only one reason why it doesn't sell much. So where did he get the dough for the big gaff? I think he's married a woman with money. Am i wrong?
I don't know about his wife but his albums cost about 10p to record so I would guess he makes more from sales than higher selling artists.Oakey said:
All those crusty students smashing st up the other month, in 15-20 years time they'll have professional jobs, probably get bonuses and they'll live in nice houses. Probably complaining about how much tax they have to pay.
And moaning about fking protesting students Would anybody around here like to own up to getting involved in the odd student protest back in the 60s and 70s, who is now moaning about the antics of those that are following in their footsteps??

Phew! Just because of someone now has some money but doesn't conform to your 'view' of the way they should live, you 'hate' them?I am no fan of Bragg, but he's entitled to his views, and if he comes into money provided it's not illegal nor corrupt, so what?
Or is this not a case of hate but jealousy?
The villagers haven't stood up and said they hate him. In fact, quite the opposite.
He obviously does something to help the community he lives within, regardless of his politics. There are plenty of 'rich' who wouldn't wipe the sh*te from their own backside.

I seem to remember an old saying:
"If you're under 40 and not a socialist you haven't got a heart"
"If you're over 40 and still a socialist you haven't got a brain"
...I like that...."If you're under 40 and not a socialist you haven't got a heart"
"If you're over 40 and still a socialist you haven't got a brain"
.....Billy Bragg!!....don't start me off.

Aside from his socialist rantings, I'm actually rather fond of Mr Bragg's music. No idea why.
However, I have to say he [has gone down in my estimations. I can only echo the quote in the article.
Ah, 'New England' with opening lines lifted straight from a Paul Simon song 20 years earlier...............................However, I have to say he [has gone down in my estimations. I can only echo the quote in the article.

Tom Logan, a man who thinks New England is quite good, said: "I always imagined he lived in a terrace in a moderately gentrified part of east London, surrounded by people from a variety of cultures that he would 'jam' with.
"And I assumed that he would keep just enough money to live a simple life and give the rest to poor people or small circulation magazines about struggles.
"I have to say that the sheer heft of Mr Bragg's house has come as something of a shock."
