Just listening to Talksport I cannot beleive that one of the presenters thinks this punishment is harsh. FFS has he watched the video on the bbc website of the incident - the guy hangs over the edge with the FE before dropping it, taking aim. He could not guarantee that it would not hit someone or that someone would walk into its path when he released it.

Surely at the point of releasing it there must have been something going on in his brain to say that this was wrong. You cannot use the excuse of being pis%£$d or I am sorry afterwards.

No one has fd up his life except himself. Thankfully he didn't screw someone else up in the process.

I doubt he could have foreseen just how badly this would screw up his life. Just about to sit his 'A' Levels, even if he continues to study and takes them I doubt the results will be as good as they might have been. University? With a record? There goes any prospect of a decent career then. I'm not particularly sympathetic to him, and I believe the sentence is about right. However, I think it is entirely possible that he didn't intend for the extinguisher to land on anybody. I'm not defending him, what he did was very stupid, but that's what people do, especially young ones, they do stupid things. In his case his reward was a severe punishment, and that's entirely appropriate, but more for the message it sends to others than for his own benefit.
