Russia could Own Parts of BP??
Discussion
Could this be troublesome or actually secure more resources for the U.K.

Interesting one if it opens new opportunities while resolving previous "tensions" between BP and Russia.
USA's jingoistic kicking of BRITISH Petroleum, which is about as British as most American companies, has hardly encouraged them to plan a bright future exclusively in bed with Uncle Sam.

Don't miss a chance to jab us even though the thread has zero to do with Yanks. It may help ease previous tensions between BP and Russia, but you speak as if you trust them as part owners. BTW, we kick our own compnies with equal zeal, I can produce records that would put you to sleep. The governmental probe has placed equal blame on the subcontractors. Oil drilling and new permits are doing fine here thank you. Anyway, back to BP and Russia. Any new opportunities will almost surely be in King Putin's favor. Totally irrelevant and not the point I was making. No-one had called BP anything but "BP" for decades and in the real world it is highly debateable whether it's actually a British company at all, albeit the primary listing is in London. Fact is that most of USA was falling over itself to blame a foreign company for the problem and constantly emphasising the "BRITISH Petroleum" angle. The company even had to stick an American in charge just to shut them up. Aggressive Congressmen, amongst others, made copious threats and challenges about the future ability of BP to do business in USA. That's the point.Ozzie Osmond said:

The point is that that idiot Barack has no love for big business because he is a hard left Democrat and has it in for all such organizations regardless of nationality. Check my posts on the BP spill, you will find only support for BP from me. ETA: If staying "on point" is an issue to you, then stick to the thread topic and don't toss in a Yank angle on your very first post.
So if I'm not allowed to mention USA how come you're immediately talking about the US president?? What has he, in your analysis, got to do with BP and Russia??Jimbeaux said:

The big problem is that is not the message the man in the street hears. Ask the unknowledgeable and they would all 'think' BP is solely to blame, simply because that is the propaganda message being fed. Most would not even have a clue any others were involved!
We all hear the world is now 'global'. Russia is part of the global structure. This will cause erruptions, it's already doing so.
The telling point, from this side of the water, is that Greenpeace environmentalists are immediately 'against' this move. For many Brits, sick to death of environmentalists being infiltrated by climate change nutcases, will think the opposite.
ie: If Greenpeace is against it, then it must be a 'good move' by BP!

I have to agree that your probe did genuinely place the blame on the others involved.

The news is has been rather soild in reporting the shared blame. The "man on the street" has heard it but has long since moved on from the issue. Additionally, anything spouted from Barack's administration is taken with skepticism anyway. The big problem is that is not the message the man in the street hears. Cameron has "welcomed" the deal.
Why? What's it got do with the UK?
Rosneft are a relative new company and only became a big player after buying the company - Baikalfinansgrup which was set up in 2003 - bought the Yukos production platform that had to sold to pay a mahoosive tax bill. It's now owned by state members, and a Swiss bloke!
I'd trust the Ruskys over the Yanks anyday.

BP have an excellent history in Russia
Hope this works out better than the last few times.
I'm guessing its in Rosneft's interests to cooperate as they are in bed together, as it were, and BP has the deep drilling technology and knowhow (is that a real word?) so it'll not be a fruitless exercise as it has been for many western companies previously. Hope this works out better than the last few times.
