Unbelievably just been watching south east today and cyclists are pushing for compo from the local council for damage to their bicycles caused by salt and sand from the roads and from potholes.

They are also it seems trying to demand that cycle lanes are given the same priority for repair as normal roads.

Are these idiots out of their fking minds???

They pay nothing to use the roads its a service provided to them free of charge by road tax paying motorists the feckless idiots.

Owning a push bike doesn't preclude you from owning a car. Or two cars and a pair of motorbikes and paying tax for the same.

Although claims for salt damage do seem a little silly.

They certainly seem to think they are more important that they are, just about to head off to pick the wife up from the station, there'll be the usual crowd of idiots on bikes who don't think red lights apply to them and ride 3 abreast on to the main road mad. They should be made to register to ride on the roads and pay a nominal tax as well.

I think you are confusing cyclists with car drivers

But if you want to follow the who payes the most road tax argument then i'd quite happily see all cars banned from the roads to let lorries go unhindered by idiot car drivers.

Car drivers can take the bus

25 tons of concrete can't

Concrete should catch the train instead of clogging the roads.

Took up cycling last year and lost 3 stone in weight and regularly riding 50 + miles on a weekend

Now commute to work each day by bike, which means one less car in the cue so all the drivers who are impatient can get there about 0.01 second quicker.

Started frequenting a couple of bike forums but stopped using one as it was so anti car

I have always worked on cars, built two kit cars from scratch and cars and motorsport have always been my main interest

Up until recently I had three cars, all of which were always taxed, tested and insured, now I have two.

When I am out on my bike I am either commuting, instead of using a car, or riding for pleasure on a weekend when I would probably otherwise have been out in a car

Other than children I know of only one person who rides a bike regularly and does not own a car, so the constant whining on about cyclists not paying road tax is a fallacy, and one which I had thrown at me following a motorist pulling straight out of a junction and almost taking me off, who then proceeded to tell me it was my own fault as he had right of way as he paid road tax and I didn't

I really do not understand this great dislike between a certain section of motorists and cyclists. I do not agree with the claiming, but if this had been a car driver claiming for damage to their pride and joy would it receive the same kind of response

brilliant idea

If you want to have a concrete floor in your garage how should it get there?

Then don't ride your bike. Same reason I don't take the Blade out in icy conditions.

There is some strange belief amongst some cyclists that they are above the law and more important than other road users.

They need putting back in their boxes

Oh FFS, how many threads will it take before some people understand how our roads are actually paid for?

Sticks.

FFS man. Are you really that retarded banghead

Please do some research into how the roads are funded. I'll give you a clue though. There are umpteen cars available to purchase nowadays that have zero road tax rolleyes

But yes I agree, it's unbelievable that taxpayers are asking the council to repair the cycle lanes too

Not quite.

I as a general rule dont mind cyclists as i dont have any issues with them used to be one myself.

What i do take issue with is them trying to claim they are just as important or more important than car drivers which is incorrect. Car owners pay massive amounts of tax at the pump on insurance and on road tax. I would guess somewhere like 30-40 billion a year a proportion of which goes to road maintenance directly and a smaller proportion if you wish goes indirectly through fund given by the government to local councils.

The cyclists now want compo for their bikes getting damaged by potholes and salt even though technically a fair proportion do not contribute directly to roads maintenance. They also want damaged and potholed cycle lanes given the same repair priority as normal car lanes.

I just dont think its acceptable.

I personally dont cycle to work as i cant as i drive for a living.

So your premise is that if you pay more tax then you are more important? Most road maintenance is funded from council tax anyway.

Given it's doubtful that anyone actually holding this staggering opinion could feasibly construct a coherent sentence or three, as you have above, I still think you're trolling.

I'll bite though.
I own a 20 mpg car, a 30 mpg car, two motorbikes and two cycles. I pay A LOT of tax in petrol, vehicle excise duty, insurance, etc. Am I therefore important enough in your eyes to complain on that other cyclist's behalf?
