I'm sure similar was suggested by the teaching council or whoever over here saying if you are a teacher you shouldn't be seen drinking or drunk, a teacher who hasn't locked down their facebook account isn't the brightest.

Reading the article I get the impression that she had locked down her account or at least she believed that she had. Given Facebook's past form for fking up privacy settings though who knows?

Me too, see booze is bad for you!
+1 First though! She used to be fit! Hot teachers at school FTW.

Anyway - what kind of person would be a 'grass' in such a pathetic way? From my understanding, this was a her travelling year, before even teaching at that school?

I hope they don't look at their doctor's FB pages. Med students are notorious drinkers to excess.

Georgia - what a surprise. It's still illegal here for supermarkets/liquor stores to sell alcohol on a Sunday.
It was the same until recently in Conwy in North Wales.

She's played that wrong. She should have let them suspend her. I suspect she'd have had an easier lawsuit then.

If they are basing it on her having pictures on her profile of her doing things it is illegal for her students to do, then that's a whole can of worms open. (Not to mention the issue of jurisdiction, with a lot of the USA still having laws that make it illegal to drink until 21.)

As well as the obvious point of smoking, there will be anything related to age restrictions. Would she be allowed to have pictures of her driving? What about filling up a car with fuel?

I think it's a bit silly for anyone in that kind of a role having an "open" Facebook account that students can look at. It's quite obvious that she shouldn't have students as friends, and the profile should be invite only.

Now that the case is moving on, it might be interesting to find out where it goes, and see if common sense prevails at any stage.

Apologies if I'm rambling...

I assumed that he was referring to the practice of going for a "pint" where the quantity of pints consumed often varies but is very rarely one smile

Or how geeky his answer way, so obviously never goes out, let alone to a pub.
