Shame his play seems to be failing.

Yet you actually seem to be a less pleasant person than you portray him as. Congratulations.

You seem glad that his play seems to have failed.

That's more malice than I'd attribute to him.

Yeah, I'd go with that too.

He was before my time, but wishing ill for somebody just isn't healthy.

I wouldn't have gone to see it so doesn't affect me either way, but it sounds like he's put a lot of effort in to it so you have to feel some sort of compassion for the chap. Don't you?

Except when he was beating his wife.

I'm sorry his show has been canned. It's possibly a case of his fan-base not wanting to see him change, and the left-wing not wanting to see him.......change.

There is no question that his past behaviour has been.....questionable, but he has also done some admirable things - troop visits for example.

I still want to believe in redemption, and hope that some good comes from it.

I don't know him personally, if that is what you mean.

As far as I know he was a comedian 'of his time'. He was well received by the BiB when when his act was full of "Nick Nick" jokes, and by the "Chalky Whites", and very much by the Forces.

Some people had a sense of humour. Back then.

How odd, are you losing the plot?

Davidson's a wife beating racist. You can feel sorry for him if you like, I don't.

What amuses me is how so many of you are familiar with him, his career and his life that he inspires such hatred in you.

Its a bloke you have never met, dont actually know and has almost certainly had less detrimental impact on your life than the bloke who decides to offer you a mortgage or not and which rate to do it. Do you loathe him when he turns you down or sends you a letter telling you your interest rate has gone up?

Jim Davidson by all logical thought should equal nothing more than a "meh".

Do we need to know the intimate details of all performers to ensure they meet our very high moral code now ,if so we may as well close all the theatres ,Cinema's,TV and Radio.
Cant say I am a massive fan but he was very popular in his day.Drink seemed to be a big problem for him.If he isnt a now good for him not everyone can change their lives around.

Davidson's main problem is his atitude to people off stage.
Many years ago we were on hols with our kids down the West Country, (Looe I think) when JD had a large boat at the docks and some other kids went over to get his autograph.

He told them to "Get the fk off my boat"!
This incident soon got around, as you'd expect, among the families on hols telling us to keep away from the boat.

Later I saw his boat coasting along with him waving to the on-lookers.

He looked pissed up to me to be honest, he was staggering about as someone grabbed him to stop him falling overboard.

But with his previous antics in mind, I shouted "fk off you wker"!
Took the smile right off his face it did!
As his play Title says, he certainly was a back then!

I always thought he stole a lot of his gags from Jimmy Jones and IMHO Charlie Williams was much funnier anyway!

Its funny really he was taken off TV about the same time as Terry Scott and June Whitfield both were thought old fashioned and made way for the likes of Ben Elton. Its Ironic as you could hardly class Terry and June as s.
