Revenge? Or clearing up the evidence trail?
Supposedly. Interestingly apparently it was judged to be sarin gas from autopsies carried out by....Turkey. Yes ladies and gents those bastions of integrity who were buying oil from Isis held wells in Syria. Those bastions of integrity who have no meat in this game at all and have only wanted to get rid of assad for as long as he has led Syria.

Amazingly convenient for them that they found it was sarin gas. A chemical compound which has a short shelf life and is hard to make meaning it was most likely Assad as the terrorists aka rebels probably could not have made sarin gas.

An interesting aside though is that the tweet that was claimed to have gone out hours before the attack about the chemical weapons attack was from a different area according to an arab speaking friend.

Jake Tapper of the esteemed Clown News Network suggests viewing the tweets of Bana Alabed for the real truth on Syria.

The fact that this 7-year-old native Syrian girl tweets neocon talking points in grammatically correct English in the middle of a war zone should not under any circumstances arouse your suspicion.

Its truly amazing how gullible and incapable of simple reasoning so many people are. Your average English 7 year old can barely read and write yet some little 7 year old girl to whom English is a foreign language can send out tweets a grammar professor would struggle to beat is taken as gospel.

I think most average folk don't even give things a second thought. Even in this forum, many posters have little more than a superficial interest in politics and seemingly even less knowledge of history, propaganda, and the PR industry. Emotions are also usually running high.

In that context, Jake Tapper's suggestion might seem perfectly reasonable.

The same thing is seen around the free Palestine kind of protests. They see the young kids doing news reports of the big bad IDF beating them up etc. Yet, theres very little reports on the plethora of videos on the internet that go into visceral detail on how to stab people, the 3rd intifada if we're going to call it that, involved a wave of stabbing attacks across Israel, it also involved car attacks that we're sadly seeing in Europe too, but no "MUH POOR PALESTINIANS DID NOTHING WRONG"

Russia stated two years ago it welcomed an independent investigation into the gas attack.

Yesterday they vetoed this put forward at the UN.

Can someone please explain this game to me?

To me it seems the resolution blames Assad and demands he provides lots of details and access to military bases and documents.

Had the resolution been to condemn the attack and request he provides access and assistance odds are Russia would have been more accommodating as would Assad. Also worth note is Assad and Russia are being asked to trust the UN and western governments to conduct an honest and fair investigation when everyone has already blamed Assad and found him guilty.

How could Assad trust them not to rig the results?

And yet as far back as 1997, people were warned, in plain sight - a Hollywood film no less - about the sort of skulduggery going on: https://www.facebook.com/militarynetwork/videos/10...

Just watched the Assad interview and it is clear (I have a lifetime of experience spotting nutters and liars and he is neither) he is not responsible for any
chemical attack.

That leaves rogue elements or false flag/fabrication.

Given the overall situation at the time, considering who would benefit most, it is almost certainly the latter.

I have always felt he comes across quite well in interviews. He never seems to avoid eye contact or look uncomfortable or unable to answer a question. That being said a lifetime of dealing with liars does not mean he is telling the truth. He may just be the best liar the world has ever seen.

That yet again is the problem with all of this. Personally I think he is telling the truth. There have been times where I have believed him to be lying about incidents in the past but mostly in this instance I believe him and Russia over the US which is a worrying state of affairs.

Assuming he's telling the truth, why are the Russians intent upon preventing any sort of inspection of Syrian government facilities? - Could the Russians be using chemical weapons in Syria without Assad's knowledge?

I simply don't understand why Assad doesn't use every opportunity to demonstrate to the West that he's innocent of war crimes. Surely it's not in his interest to be perceived as the perpetrator of genocide?

The whole situation out there is a total clusterf**k that's for sure.

Possibly the same reasons that the UK or USA wouldn't allow China to pop round and inspect all their military bases or why we wouldn't let Russia have a nose around Porton Down?

The situation - politically and militarily - is hardly comparable though is it?

Quite correct its worse. So we are not war with Russia and they have not said they wish to overthrow our government. They have not been supplying weapons or intelligence or training to people in the UK illegally to assist in overthrowing our government.

Why on gods green earth would Assad let anyone affiliated with the western governments who are so hellbent on getting rid of him go wandering around Syrian military bases gathering Intel that could be used by the west to help overthrow Assad????

He would have to be clinically insane and so would Russia to support such a move.

Why are the OPCW working on behalf of the UN "affiliated with Western Governments"?

While I have no solid reason to believe the OPCW would provide any form of intel to the US from their operation on Syrian bases my understanding of the directive was that it was to give open access to all syrian bases not simply the one claimed to be where the weapons are/were stored and lots of Syrian military documents.

As you will not below assad obviously has a lot more time and money on his hands than we are led to belive if he has been able to rebuild or generate more chemical weapons factories...
