Hi,

Due to the changes on child benefit I have been sent a letter from HMRC to complete a self assessment form.

For the last year I have been temporarily transferred to a new office and as I use my car to travel to work can I enter the additional mileage covered on the self assessment?

My employer has agreed to pay my car parking charge but they will not pay any additional fuel costs or car usage allowance.

Thanks

Russ

Do you have additional mileage over and above what you would have incurred in travelling to your normal permanent place of work?

Hi Eric,

Thanks for replying.

My temporary office is 9 miles further away, so 18 miles round trip. Not a great distance by any means hence why I have never claimed but it has doubled my normal commute.

So I thought if I am filling out the self assessment I might as well claim (if allowed)

Cheers

Russ

I think that if you are at a place on a temporary basis, you can make a claim for the extra mileage you are incurring - for up to two years.

Nope rolleyes - a full claim for the total mileage is permitted for journeys to a temporary workplace.

Look at Booklet 490 - Employee Travel

That's why I said "I think". I left it that way just to tempt you out of hiding because I noticed you've been absent for quite a while.

Yes the headmaster is back from holidays and ready to admonish when required!

Nice to know you missed me...
