Afternoon all,

I'm sure this has been covered before but I have a bit over 10k EUR in account on the continent.

What's the best way to exchange some or all of it? I guess a straight transfer will be pretty poor.

I have seen some transfer services but not sure if they are good with a relatively small amount or even who to trust.

Any recommendations to look into further?

Thanks.

I used Baydon Hill FX ( www.baydonhill.com) earlier this year with no problems with a slightly larger amount.

You could try HiFx, MoneyCorp, Halo Financial or World First to name a few.

Actually having said that, all of the above apart from Halo will likely "shove" you onto their online trading platform to carry out your exchange, as opposed to you speaking with and agreeing the rate with a person via telephone. This is because of the amount you intend to transfer.

For ease of transfer, check that the company you intend to use has its own EUR client account in the same country that your funds will be coming from. Some European banks will still scratch their heads at the thought of sending your euros to a EUR account in the UK.

Thanks for those, I will finally get round to looking at it this week!

Will there be much difference between them? I would imagine that they will all be better than a normal bank transfer but I guess for the amount they wont exactly be fighting to give a better rate than each other?!

You won't find too much difference in the rate.

I would say go with the people whose sign up was the easiest, who are the most pleasant to deal with and those who pester you the least once you've signed up.

I've used Nick at www.allthesmartmoney.com. Worth a phone call.

Foreign Exchange trading is as much about timing as it is about the bid/offer spread. You could have done this deal on 29th October and received £8,580 or done it on 7th November and received £8,300. Today you would receive approximately £8,370. Best of luck with whatever you decide.
