Does anyone have one of these accounts, it was mentioned on Radio 4's Money Box programme last week as paying 3% for children. Trying to find an details on live is fruitless, just wondering if anyone has such an account?

You need to pop into the branch and speak to someone there.

You have to qualify for HSBC Premier banking, based on the standard criteria. Then you extend your account to cover your family (I think it's an extra £5/£10 per month or so.).

To qualify for a Premier account you need to earn over £100k a year I think? I've got an advanced account, get free travel insurance (that I have claimed on a few times and they pay out straight away), breakdown insurance and some saving offers.

I've just opened a Young Persons ISA for my newborn at the Halifax. 6% interest if a parent have an ISA with them also.

They did a 6% regular saver, but the max starting balance was £100, and then max additions were also £100 PCM, after 12 months, it just became a 'normal' saver with the usual poor interest rate.

Catch with this is, you can't get the money till 18. That however was exactly what we wanted.

Thanks for the replies, I've been a premier customer for a long time now (and the wife), it's pretty good service for us as we are based in the uk and Thailand. It's just difficult to get someone on the phone this time of year to answer so simple questions. The premier team said I have to go into the branch, but who has time to take a day off work only to be told you need to make an appointment. With so many made redundant at hsbc I wonder who is left in their buildings. Before the big crash they used to send people out to meet you and do your bidding. Maybe I'll get somewhere in the new year.
