Roofing company scam - refund via no win/no fee vampires?!

We got a letter in the post from a Northern law firm claiming that a company we had used has gone into liquidation and been declared to be a scam and they could help us get our money back for a 25% fee.
Basically it was a company that jet washed your roof, fixed any broken tiles (prob from the jetwashing...) then painted the roof with a thermal coating. I thought utter bulls
t at the time, but it had been done by the time I found out. I vaguely remember, it wasn't your typical cowboy builder appearance, it seemed a vaguely professional crew. We can't find any receipts from the time at the moment however.
I think it was several hundred pounds paid, would anyone bother taking the law firm up on this or is this sort of thing as much of a scam in itself?

Doesn't make any sense. Something's missing from the story. If a company of that sort has gone into liquidation the chances of anyone seeing any money out of it are infinitesimally small - it's gone bust because it's run out of cash and there almost certainly won't be any assets. So it's very unlikely any law firm would waste their time on it. And how did they find out you had been a customer in any event??

It's all very strange.
Frankly if someone's offering you 75% for nothing, why on earth wouldn't you take it? Do you think you can recover more in some other way?

Yep, that's what I thought. You may think it was pointless and wouldn't achieve much, but if they did actually do it and you paid for it I can't see how you were scammed.Gassing Station | Finance | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
