In layman's terms, aren't they assuming that anti-bitcoin technology will advance to become a threat to today's bitcoin technology, without factoring in that bitcoin's will advance too?
Yes. Security is always a cat and mouse game.

http://www.bitcoincashplus.org/ here's the next fork.

And apparently there's a die hard bunch that still aims to implement the abandoned 2x fork.

https://bitcoin2x.org/

It's beginning to remind me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WboggjN_G-4biggrin

I'm not expecting a performance jump so the block chain can be cracked, there's something more fundamental on the horizon, possibly by the end of this year, so come January you can all point at me and tell me I was wrong. Personally I hope so.

Oh interesting. What is your crystal ball / Oracle of Delphi / sheep stomach innards telling you or is it inscrutable?

Guys just a quick ask. Has anyone heard of USI tech trading packages off the back of bit coin mining? A couple of chaps I work with have sunk money into claiming to be looking at 45% return on investment over a 140 period.

Smells like a scam to me?

well a quick glance at their website suggests it is a scam, if they had the best algorithm in the world then why would they share it?

Indeed. I've done some Youtubing and Googling as well and for every 1 good review of it I find 1 bad.

a lot of these are basically Ponzi schemes so if your mates got in early then they may make some money if the uptake is good.

Personally I'm making 7-10% a day currently just hodling.

bought some btc today and sent to exchange, 8 hours ago, still pending, in the meantime lost 10% in value and cost me 10% to send it. Yes this is the future......
I moved some BTC this morning. It took less than 5 mins to arrive and cost 0.03% to do. Now that the mempool spam attack is over, the future seems to be back here again smile

I spent just under .5 BTC on mining back in march. I got my USD equivalent back 500 dollars plus affiliate scheme but it would be worth 3.5k now plus so a big mistake. My daily payout now is pittance. These mining scams are well know and tried and tested.

I am hopefull that when Cargurus are running this ship they will stamp down hard on having two virtually identical threads and we will have no more of this nonsense.

My guess is 2019 will contain more grind down until Q1/Q2 then we'll enter an extended phase of absolute deadness. Beyond that I think it depends on whether the wider markets croak. If they do then all bets are off.

I would agree except I would expect it to continue in a general downward/flat trend right through 2019, possible uptick some time after the next halving in 2020.

Doubt if it will fall below c. $1000 as I think the buy pressure at or about that level to be significant.

This based on no knowledge or analysis but simply contrasting and comparing with the timelines following the last big drop/recovery.

I could see the price dropping to around $2500...There’s a lot happening. Bch split causing a lot of weirdness and something unpredictable will happen if Bitmain implodes.

Bitcoin value = negligible.

Ergo price trends to 0.

Sell now, while you can. biggrin

Agree with bloomen & tertius. 3000 very likely, 1200ish likely. Then a bumpy sideways ride for a couple of quarters until the next halving approaches.

This will clear out a large number of alts, including some major coins which will quite possibly be 51% attacked (looking at you BCH).

If we get a wider recession, it's going to get very interesting.
