When we moved house recently and as a housewarming gift my grandad was going to give me £100. However, following a heated discussion regarding our opposing views on Brexit, he gave it to me in Euros as a tongue in cheek "good luck on the continent!" gift.

I thus have €115.

I've no plans to actually go to any Euro-zone countries in the immediate future and with limited exchange-and-currency knowledge wondered if there was much point in holding on to it for a while or doing anything more useful than taking it to a bureau de change and getting £80 for it.

Agree.. consider it an investment as the £ slides further down the greasy Brexit pole.

Keep it as a memento, like deutsche marks or french francs.

One day someone will ask you what it is.

Why not pop it in a safe, until you next have a trip to mainland Europe?

Offer to a friend/work colleague at a reasonable rate or keep them until you need them which is what I usually do.

Spend them in M&S - I'm pretty sure they take them.
Failing that, spend them in an airport somewhere - They generally take £, $ and € everywhere now.

Or Selfridges (any store), or Harrods.
