I got sent a link about it a while back. I took one look at it and did a quick search and it felt very much like pyramid scheme and had 'scam' written all over it so I hit the 'X' button and forgot about it.

I am not affiliated with Initiative Q at all, but signed up yesterday after receiving the heads-up from a good friend, who’s generally very sensible, and works for a leading private equity firm in the UK. He’s clued up on it all.

All you need is an email address so for me it was very low risk. I have over Q100k now so if it does go anywhere I’ll have a nice chunk.

Currently worth naff all though!

while they're being given out for free you've got nothing to loose I guess.
You get to lose your privacy & give away your social graph for nothing. Remember Cambridge Analytica & their seemingly innocuous psychology quizzes on Facebook? Same kind of thing happening here.

This is pretty much my feeling.

Just been offered a sign up for this b ugh someone who I'd thought was quite sensible, can't see how it'll be worth anything and when it sounds too good to be true.

Isn't this a standard ICO modus operandi, offering free coins/token in exchange for signing up to their site, Telegram, exchange, posting on their BitcoinTalk thread and so on in order to try and create a groundswell of interest?

Gold has fundamentally been changed by etfs. I know plenty about gold and bullion, you can’t compare bitcoin to gold.
.
You’re right there. I’m picking up a 1kg gold bar later in the week, and get to use it as a paperweight, or for my new baby to teethe on. I can also just be amazed at its density and heat conductivity, and sit playing with it while watching television.

So yes, no comparison to bitcoin at all.

That was a Feynman anecdote. They went through a slew of metals which proved below par for neutron reflection. The doorstop was for the room containing the rather more valuable plutonium sphere, which was getting a bit warm.

the Q currency says it is underpinned by blockchain
No it doesn't. Also, anyone using that buzzword without a pronoun/article almost certainly doesn't understand what it is.

Interesting article here

https://www.coindesk.com/ethereum-energy-project-n...

A commercial project using Ethereum has admitted that its not working as well as hoped, and they've teamed up with SAP to write a different background process. I thought Ethereum was supposed to be more user friendly than BitCoin?

Has anyone successfully deployed any crypto in a commercial business?

IMO the main factors affecting the market now are:-

1) Tether/Bitfinex - dark clouds looming
2) Stock markets dumping - Risk off situation. Crypto acting as ATMs to pay for losses.
3) BCH 'fork'- Horror show and the frightening reality that no crypto bar BTC is safe from 51% attacks and being taken over by 'rogue' elements.
