BTC / $ is the dominant pair. Sterling is a tiny milestone by comparison. The markets will barely blink at it, whilst the big $ round numbers have always been clear resistance points in the past. Even Radio 4's Today show mentioned $10k BTC this morning & it's splashed across the FT. I think £10k won't get nearly as much coverage.

So let's say you got in early and now had a few million sitting on a hardware wallet and you wanted to cash out...how exactly would you do that?

Get a fully verified coinbase or bitstamp account, then transfer funds to bank account in chunks.

At the minute Etoro is perfect for this - verifies in a couple of minutes, takes Paypal, and returns your withdrawal to your Paypal account within one working day. I'm tempted to put 10k on BTC and just sit and watch it go up all day!

What are their fees, you would need a fair movement to make it worth it for short term?

Love this

"Pole dancing instructor Dee Heath is riding the surge with her fitness business in western Sydney. She has spent $5,800 on Bitcoin since July and has more than tripled her investment.

"Look, I love pole dancing but lately my passion has definitely been Bitcoin," she told SBS News."

Surely, the perfect sign of a bubble?

Fees are a $25 withdrawal fee and that's about it - they make their money on the spread between buying and selling price ($10802/$10934 as of now)

I agree but $ does not mean much to me and I'm sure my local lambo dealer will charge £ not $ (and if Elon is not accepting BTC then I doubt VW will).

To be clear I'm not actually hodling that much BTC - but who knows next year biggrin

I quite fancy sticking some money in ethereum for a few years.

Would etoro be the easiest platform to do this with? I’m assuming if buying through them they hold them for you rather than having to run a coin wallet yourself?

Yep, no wallet of your own involved. They do a few other coins as well - Dash, XRP, Litecoin, Ethereum, Eth classic, and I think Bitcoin gold?

And sterling doesn't mean much to a Brazilian. Exchange rate calculators are freely available wink Car dealers often do what they like. iirc there's a McL or Lambo dealership in the US that takes BTC. Google will find the story.

If you think etoro is as safe as a bank, think again. Holding this stuff in your own wallet really isn't that difficult. Whether Eth is the right thing to hold onto for a few years is an entirely different matter biggrin

and I'm still in the UK and not Brazil or the USA. I have no idea how much my weekly shop would be in $. I want to see prices in £.

Indeed. Any new people, be careful. BTC has experienced 60% drops every quarter since pretty much forever. If you can't handle that sort of volatility, now is probably not the right time to jump on. When it drops, as it surely will, plenty of Bitcoin is Dead FUD will ensue until the next ramp up begins afresh.

It's been going for 11 years, never been hacked or robbed, is regulated by the FCA, and it's super-handy and convenient for me - I wouldn't say that about any exchanges or wallets!
