Update on my exploratory claims, heard back in regards to Egg card and loan, as expected no PPI.

Heard back from Lloyds a couple of weeks ago saying they had fully investigated in respect to loans, mortgage and credit card products I'd held with them and as expected no PPI was noted.

This morning I got another letter from Lloyds stating that actually PPI had been applied to 3 of the 7 personal loans I've had with them over the years and I would be getting a payment of just over £1k in the next 28 days (80% of which is interest on the amounts paid towards PPI). Obviously a very nice surprise but I'm absolutely livid that I've been done not once, nor twice but three times. I'm reasonably financially savvy and I know damn well that I have always declined PPI in as I've been in stable employment since leaving college 25+ years ago.

This is just by completing the online form, I didn't bother filling the questionnaires as I was pretty certain it'd lead to nothing...

After years of ignoring all the PPI noise and endless calls from companies, I decided to check. I had thought I never had PPI on anything since the early 90s.

Anyway, just last week, Lloyds contacted me with positive news and £3750 appeared in my bank as refund. Cant believe this was hidden or applied to loans without me knowing, but it must have been because I always refused any PPI I was offered.

I have just received a letter from the co op about miss sold packaged bank account. Just over £1500 coming my way. At least it will go some way to paying my impending car bill!

That's a credit card. Was the PPI premium shown on the statement or 'lost' in the interest rate?

I use Capital One and have never seen any premium itemised and don't pay any interest so hopefully clear!

I read trying to get a refund out of Capital One is like trying to get blood out of a stone. I tried their online PPI check form three times and every time I get an email within about eight hours saying they can't find anything. I'm a little cynical that they even check considering all the other banks take a few weeks to let you know, that Capital One seem to be able to give you an answer within hours, even on a weekend, makes me skeptical.

Were there any other products similar to ppi that were available?

Basically, I had 2 Nat West credit cards between 1994 and 2000 (approx), and used to pay an amount every month (a % of the outstanding balance) for some kind of protection. I've not got any statements from that period, but when my missus was sorting me out financially (I was maxxed out) the first thing we did was stop this protection, then close the accounts and move to a 0% balance transfer card.

I applied for a PPI refund a couple of years back but was told that I didn't have it.

Is it worth re applying? How can I found out what it was I was paying the extra % for?

Most of the companies that advertise charge about 40% of the awarded amount.

There are some linked to charities that charge a lot less, but are not as good as the more commercial ones.

Reclaimppi claims to be the cheapest... 10% of refund. But no idea if they are any good.

Be aware also, the percentage they charge usually doesn’t include VAT which is chargeable on top of their fee!!!!!!

ive said it many times. do it yourself, it's easy.go on their website or go on the FOS website. if you want you can do a SAR on a bank/business and ask for every piece of information they have on you and decide from there. if you wanted you can give FOS your details along with a list of banks or businesses you want to start a complaint up with and FOS can contact them on your behalf to get them to send you out forms.

the CMC's do not do anything special, they don't have any extra authority or clout that any normal person would. they're essentially that weirdo walking around the town center trying to get you into a nightclub on a discount that isnt even a a discount.

just remember at the end of the day if a business comes back saying they have no record of you having PPI, or you didn't have PPI... and you have no record yourself of ever taking out PPI there isnt really anything you can do.

But is the insurance premium in the interest rate or on the statement? If you don't pay interest and there's no entry on the statement you can't be paying PPI surely?

Just a quick update on this thread. I was refused a claim by Barclaycard, they stated a policy sold to me in 1996 was sold correctly despite the fact they had no copies of the application etc. I complained with more info and they still refused.
I escalated to the financial ombudsmen and they looked further into it, as I had only been in work for 4 months at the point of application they confirmed it would have been a mis sold policy and £3500 had just landed in my bank account. Happy days, especially as I was made redundant 3 wks ago.
Moral is, don't give up smile

well done! and to think, if you used a CMC they'd probably take 40% of that money for the same level of effort you put in.

A small update from myself. Tried in vain with Mortgage rock to reclaim on mortgage PPI dated back to 2003, they confirmed I had PPI but as I was sold the mortgage by a broker rather than themselves the claim was rejected. I pretty much expected that would be the case. The broker is now deceased and the estate agent they worked for folded a good few years ago.

On a more positive note I just got paid £350 back on a claim against a topman store card I took way back in 1998, the claim was handled by Santander, took ages for the claim to complete (about 3 months) compared to the 2 weeks Egg took but a good result none the less.

Total so far just under £3K back after tax for a few hours filling out forms Rather happy smile

Same here.... £3500.

One was from a mortgage that refused when I asked a few years ago. It was joint names, when she claimed, they paid.

Go figure.
