do u have to know which companies you think you had ppi with for these sort of sites / ppi claim companies?

ie i cant remember what i had with who bar a few - will they look it up on everyone or do you have to have the details?

thanks
in my opinion i wouldn't use resolver. ask FOS directly. resolver sometimes doesn't direct your complaint to the right business.

- yes you have to know the company. the name at the very least.
- no they will not look up companies for you. if you don't know even the name of the business then whats the point?
- it's also important to know the year you took it out. because some businesses you might not even be able to complain about, and with some businesses there might be different people responsible depending on the dae of sale.

you're better off contacting FOS directly (email or phone) and giving them your details+ business name + date you took out whatever finance the PPI was attached to. if it's a really obscure business or a business with a generic name it will be made easier if you have some kind of loan agreement/letter that includes the business name at the bottom

Long story but I lost patience with the FoS they can be way too close to their masters

I had PPI on a Bank of Scotland CC which started in 1992 and I ended it seventeen years later before the scandal broke.

I contacted BoS direct and they said they would investigate and a few days later came back with what they termed a first and final offer of £1200

They then got a shock as I have every single months statement (sad I know) and the premiums I had paid totalled over a £1000 - they told me by letter they keep no full records over six years so they must just guess

They then made me a new 'first and final' offer of £1800 - I refused citing the 26 years of cumulative interest which just like your pension does remarkable things over long periods

They then said you don't like it then tough and you now have six months to take us to the FOS and the clock is ticking.

The FOS appointed an assessor - nice young lad just finished a geology degree and his first job. He had a direct contact at the BoS to speak to and as it transpired relied entirely on what they told him. I had meantime produced a spreadsheet of all the premiums rolling up the interest which he never looked at.

The problem is the FOS are binding on all parties and he stated that he believed the BoS were being entirely fair which was frankly a joke - BoS were playing him like a fiddle

Very quickly I dis-instructed the FOS and instead took the BoS to MCOL - a looong while later the Judge went through it all very carefully and thankfully ignored all the bks that BoS bully boys hide behind like 'account reconstruction' and I came away with just over £4000 plus all the court fees which was exactly as my spreadsheet.

So my wife questioned whether she had ppi and it came back (on various store cards) that she did however on all of the various ones (4+) she received a letter saying

we're satisfied based on the information available that tge sale of the ppi policy wasnt substantially flawed and there are grounds to conclude that you eould have bought the policy in any event

She wasn't aware that it was added as by her admission she was crap with money when she was younger and it was usual to be pressure sold store cards in women's shops back then.

Is there realistically anything that she can do?

If she disagrees..read the bottom of the letter.

'if you disagree you have the right to refer your complaint to the financial ombudsman service, but you must do so within six months of the date of this letter'.
