Thank you to all contributors for very helpful advise and insights. I have gone for the Legal & General World tracker and also thier Global growth fund for just a tad of excitement. My stage of life tells me to be relatively safe with investments unlike 30 years ago when I was heavily invested in S.E Asia emerging markets. Lucky I pulled my money two days before the market was closed for a few days eek Lesson learnt back then!!

I am considering the Lindsell Train Global Equity class d via Hargreaves Lansdown.

Does anybody have any views on the relative performance and costs of this investment as I am open to ideas if there is a better alternative.

I own this and it has performed very well (up circa 25%) at a reasonable price. I’ve not done a massive amount of comparison to other similar funds though, but for me this is primarily about beta rather than alpha, and I wouldn’t judge alpha over a short holding period.

Dripping £50 each month could be eaten by trade fees if you're not careful, depending on what your broker's charging model is. Could you do £300 every 6 months instead?

I decided to do very few trades and go for a broker with low annual fees but a less competitive cost per trade. As long as I don't trade much, it works out cheaper. If you must trickle your contributions in, do the opposite and go for cheaper per-trade fees.

HL probably isn't the cheapest place to hold it. Have a look at http://monevator.com/compare-uk-cheapest-online-br... considering how often you intend to invest and how big an investment you anticipate.
