I’m currently in the process of reviewing how we have our personal, joint and savings accounts set up, and I’m interested to hear any advise and examples of how others have theirs set up.

For example, my wife and I currently have separate bank accounts, I bank with Barclays, and she banks with HSBC. We both get paid into these accounts, and from this have direct debits into a central current account (HSBC) at the start of each month to cover bills. However I feels unnecessarily complicated - but I enjoy my on bank account and some independents to buy stuff like gifts for the wife. And me!

I would also like to start separate savings pots for Christmas, our cars and holidays. Which could get even more complicated...

So, any input from you all would be much appreciated.

Ditto but with Barclays, all the money is ours but it is nice to have a separate account.

Great, thank you. I didnt realise that independent, but shared accounts was an option. Does anyone know if HSBC have this feature?

Think they meant the shared one is seen by both. Personal ones not.

We've always had a joint account for all joint bills.....although since escaping for kids, it is me who has funded it!
Plus a bunch of other ones to stash away little bits, get interest, low-cost foreign withdrawals etc etc. No idea how my credit score is so high....!!

But yeah, keep some small account/s each for personal treats or gifts etc.....

Wife and I have HSBC Premiers each with a Joint HSBC online e-saver linked to both. If we need to move money about we just use the joint account.

We cannot see each other's personal accounts.

We have a First Direct joint current account. We then have two (one in each name) Regular Savings Accounts off this which you can pay £300 a month into and get 5%. Excellent service and you can still pay in cheques and cash via any HSBC branch when required. You'll get £150 when you move too.

Not a lot of people qualify for HSBC Premier though

And if you can’t, what are you doing on pistonheads?

Joint current account, joint short term savings account (for things like holidays and washing machines), separate ISAs but that is a hold over from when the annual ISA limits were much lower.

We are pretty much the same, with the exception of a joint savings account, linked to our joint bank account, that we use to save for holidays and work on the house etc.

We also both have separate savings for cars and longer term savings in ISAs etc.
