Very annoyed they are canning the smaller phones. It’s pure profit grab. Smaller phones have less margin. So don’t sell them at all! Jeez. I hate big phones. But I’m totally stuck in the ecosystem and now can’t even use Spotify! Didn’t mind at first. Starting to get a bit much. Was hoping the watch would replace the phone for most cases but it connects to lte maybe 20% of the time. Aaarrrghhhh.
My 6S is too small for what I use it for so I'll be looking at the plus range when the deals are announced but my other half has a 5SE and that needs replacing as it's running like a dog. She also hates big phones and the 5 footprint is ideal for her. She aint happy.

I don't have the apple watch - but think I'll get one.........how does the one work with the sim card?

do you have to have a separate number? or is it a clone of your handset sim?

It's a clone but only works if you are on EE.

But then you have to have your phone on you to get texts or calls on it. Makes it a bit pointless IMO.

yeah it would be good to have that feature..........but.........

1. I worked for EE, and don't like their network design
2. I don't like being forced to buy a brand due to a restriction
3. I'm more than happy with my supplier

the new watch still has many features that I like, I need a watch anyway (my Garmin is fubar) and it's still a handy device even with my phone in pocket to receive updates on the wrist etc.

Plus I believe it's about 20% cheaper without the EE Sim (not sure if EE charge extra for a cloned SIM)?

that was my question BongT - apparently you can get the new one (and probably older one) with an EE cloned SIM, so it can operate without the handset in range.

but you have to be EE for some reason......(which won't be a good one)

It might be possible to unlock it.............

There’s nowhere to put a sim so I don’t get how that works.

My series 3 only works on cellular (messaging, calls) if my phone is in Bluetooth range. It’s not a separate entity.

Just googled it. Seems you just need cellular watch and your iPhone doesn’t need to be with you but does need to be on and on WiFi or cellular.

Might try that tomorrow at coffee. I’ll look really special!

so not a cloned SIM?

basically just connected (like say an Amazon Echo....) or Skyplus -

why does it only work on EE then? :-)

Right. My ne isn’t cellular, which is what I asked for!
I can still do all the cellular stuff but only when my phone is in range.

Who leaves their iPhone at home anyway. That’s just weird!

Maybe they do it so they can tell everyone their watch is cellular.

God. Apple people are odd.

Yes. Just use your iPhone I guess.

Don’t know about EE as I live in Asia. Sounds bks to me but if I remember rightly they were the exclusive partners for a new iPhone, or maybe it was carphone warehouse?

Dunno.

Not sure I am able to join this thread with my £200 Nokia in my pocket. But I felt compelled to offer that my phone can make calls and texts.
Just found I can access the internet with my phone whilst on a ferry and battery is at 52% since charging yesterday night. Can iPhones do this? 😉

£200 for a Nokia?!

If, like you, I don’t have any calls and don’t use my iPhone it’ll last two days. Most people with iPhones are very popular and have many friends who like to ring up and compare or ask about their amazing phone.
I bet you check your phone a lot to make sure it’s on. Don’t you.

Buy an iPhone. Become popular.

The choice of OS is such a polarising decision for a lot of people and given how dependant a lot of us are on them it’s not a huge surprise I guess.
There appears to be those that even if an iPhone was solid gold and gave you the moon on a stick for £9.99 they’d still say it was rubbish and those that disagree would be shouted down as brainwashed fanboys.

I use two phones for work (yes I can answer two at once because I’m awesome) and currently have a Galaxy S9 and an iPhoneX.
I’ve used various android and iOS (all flagship models) over the last few years and the main difference is the Android handsets always seem to need a load of third party apps to do what the iPhone does out of the box.
In addition there are some business apps that simply aren’t made for Android due to the fragmented nature of the OS and the foibles of different handsets.
A great example is plugging the S8 into my old Citroen which caused the headunit to lock solid, keys removed, vehicle locked and the radio was still blaring away. Tried twice, did the same twice needing the battery to the car to be disconnected to reset.
Plug an iPhone in and it works.
I know there’s a work around by just streaming over Bluetooth but why bother when you can buy a phone that just works.
Battery claims are horsest. My iPhone lasts 24hrs where as the Galaxy is done after ten hours. Probably something to do with apps refreshing that I can’t stop but can on the iPhone. I can’t easily plug the Galaxy into the car to charge either without fear of it buggering the radio.
The Galaxy keyboard takes twice as long to type with- but you can change the keyboard in Android..... or buy an iPhone that works.
Email, but you can download your choice of email apps if Samsung’s mail app isn’t any good (it’s not by the way).... and after ten years+ I’ve still not found one that works as well as iOS mail does out of the box.

It’s horse for courses but to claim an iPhone isn’t worth the money isn’t an individuals call to make, i can almost run the company on my £1000 iPhone, I couldn’t on an S9. To me that makes it worth considerably more than it cost.
