Cheapest way to sell £50 worth of unwanted shares!
Discussion
I have never posted on this part of PH before...so here goes..!
I have a few shares in what used to be Ladbrokes, now GVC Holdings.
These were bought a long time ago mainly to get shareholder perks.
The current value is about £50 total !
I want to sell them but it seems that the costs will be as much as the shares are worth.
A brief google has come up with thisismoney.co.uk, a website that is part of The Daily Mail group, and it seems to be the cheapest way of selling.
Has anyone used this website and is it OK ?
Some say that you can donate small shareholdings to charity, but I would prefer to get something for them : it would fill my Alfa 'almost' for my week's commute !
Advice welcome !

I've never used them, but you can do free share dealing on https://www.trading212.com/
I'm sure there's a catch (not the best market price?) but for £50 worth it is probably better than paying even a few quid commission.

You’re issue being how much they charge to transfer the holding. Those discount rates are for trades via their electronic settlement process and often the very cheap ex only firms don’t offer a service to transfer holdings as they only offer physical execution as a marketing means to acquire leads for their OTC book or structured product businesses.

I believe it’s possible to donate them to charity and claim tax relief on the value of the charitable donation. That way you get back value equivalent to your marginal tax rate.
It is - via http://www.sharegift.org/If the donated value is less than the purchase price you may also realise a capital loss, which you could set against gains if you are lucky enough to have any above the threshold.
