Soap was mentioned earlier: what to "cheap" PHers do as the size of the bar gets very small? Do you consolidate it with other bits or do something else?

R.
I used to leave a collection in the sink to soak then mould it all together. OH has found a kit which I think has molds to pour it into as she likes making crafty type stuff, but personally I think that's a step too far for me anyhow. I do have limits...
Soap welding is a real skill, it drives my Mrs mad but I love it when a tricky weld actually bonds biggrin

Around here ASDA reduce at 18:00 -So good luck with getting anything at 19:00
Chatting to the whoops ticket girl, now it's all computerised with the "Bluetooth printer"?? (well the scanning unit is separate to the printer) the electronics wont let the poor staff reduce items to the final point before 18:00 thumbup

A woman my wife once worked with bought an expensive new dinner service every Christmas and returned it in the New Year. It was used, carefully cleaned, returned and refunded; the packaging meticulously preserved and reused to allay suspicion.

So much work - and worry about breakages - all to impress her dinner guests.

As we knew her secret I guessed we would never be invited.

Why do you care if it's Brakes that supply them?
Because its usually a chain that deals in heated up frozen food so maybe I should have said chain restaurant instead of saying one that's supplied by a certain company. I'd rather either spend a little extra and go to a proper restaurant or cut to the chase and go to 'spoons where the cheaper microwaved Brakes food can be found.
You'll struggle to find many pubs that do their own freshly made and cooked food in the UK nowadays. The vast majority of them are supplied by Brakes or 3663 (or Bidvest as they seem to call themselves now) and comes to your plate via the freezer and microwave.
bks. Get away from the chavvy pubs and you'll find loads that employ a decent, if basic, chef and who create their own menus and food.
Agreed. I was recently looking for a new restaurant/pub and found a local place that not only does decent food, but the meat is butchered on site.

I don't shop at your Asda, it's 7pm onwards at my local Tesco.

Not a great haul last night however. I'm T2D so have to have a careful healthy diet and much of what was there was cakes, punnets of pre-prep sweet fruit, pasta, rice, root veg and ready meals. I fought with the local Asians and got some cheap salad and veg then found Sheeps hearts (see thread in food section) reduced elsewhere so stocked up on those. A good 'hearty', healthy, Winter evening meal was circa £3 in ingredients.

i wandered over at 3pm ish to the m&s at the wharf to see if they had any unusual flavored hot cross buns in stock yet (they bring out some nice flavors for easter) and had a browse to see whats new generally. noticed a turkey roulade was reduced from £10 to £2. then noticed that all the turkey roasting joints were reduced to £2-£1.80-£1.50, so cleaned them out. there not great but do a job bunged in the oven for an easy meat option. 2 different sizes (5ppl and 3pppl size ones, plus the aforementioned roulade) which seemingly retail at £10-£15 normally. (wouldn't pay that in a million years).

in the freezer and jobs a goodun!

they were sell by date 28th, but surprised they were reduced as much as they were as early as 3pm

Tempted to pop into local Asda during 'whoooooooops' hour, see if I can pickup a cheap Chinese takeaway meal - not sure I'll beat 10p like T6 vanman!

I buy whole salmons when they're half price in Tesco, cut it up and whack it in the freezer.

On the subject of shower gel- when I was going through basic training I'd bump into the same bloke in the showers daily who would always be on the scrounge for shower gel.

One day he asks "hey man, can I borrow your shower gel?" so I whip out my hair covered bar of soap and ask if he wants to use that

mine was merely a reccy on hot cross buns as i had to get out of the office for a bit. no intention of even buying any, but i thought that was too much of a bargain...disappointingly had to buy a bag despite having loads in my desk draws so wasted 10p frown

I did that, once.

I had so much salmon in the freezer that every time i looked to see what i could cook the mass of salmon staring back make me want anything but!

I let my guard slip on Monday.

I tried to replicate a batch of food that i had cooked a while back which was basically a ton of frozen veg, joint of lamb and some gravy powder all chucked in the slow cooker and then frozen down afterwards.

However i tried to supersize it so bought a large leg of lamb for £19.

It wouldnt fit in the slow cooker properly so barely cooked.

When it came to carving it, it was still raw on one side.

I couldnt be arsed to fanny about cooking it properly so most of it went in the bin.

I think thats the most £ of food ive binned since moving out of my parent's house.
(What was left tasted really good)

Another frugality ive done recently is cancelling Spotify premium which i must have paid for, for nearly 10 years and swapped to Amazon prime.

I was paying £5 a month for spotify (student) but am now paying £3.15ish (annual cost/12) for amazon prime.

Basically all the same music, but i also get the movies and the delivery.

That's a good deal on Prime! £38/ year?

It's £79, is it not?

I thought Prime music was a bit crap - like Amazon Prime video. Too much of the stuff you still have to pay for. I keep it because it's handy for the free delivery, but not overly impressed with the music or video.

Is it not the case that Amazon music included with prime is just 2 million songs? And to get access to the full 50 million library you need to pay for Amazon music unlimited which is 9.99 a month on top?

That's the reason why haven't cancelled my Spotify subscription, but I last looked at Amazon music a few years ago so perhaps things have changed? (I have Prime).

In other news, has anyone ever thought about cleaning your toilet brush in the dishwasher?

^ hehe .... she makes the point that it isn't about the cost of buying a new one, rather a noble cause of saving the consumption of plastics.

I'm a bit distressed by the Miller & Carter hate. We love it. So there. The Wilmslow one is great. Great steaks, great service, no tracksuits.
Use topcashback at every opportunity, collect the cashback, cash it out to M&B giftcards gaining an extra 7% IIRC.
Winner, winner, chicken free steak dinner.
Cheap, moi?
+1 Wilmslow one is great, really nice steaks.
