Does Julian Dead or Alive?

You need to send them an up to date car list at the very least.

I'll get back to individual posts when I get a minute, but need to make an announcement.

I have just received an email from a mate with a link to an American website that states I am one of the richest celebrities in the UK! biggrin

So obviously I will no longer have time for you lot! hehe

WTF!

At least they got my date of birth right (though nothing else!).

I'd be more upset that they're about to quote your weight in 'metres'. rofl

Hi guys, my parents are in their 70s and have a pot of money with a FA charging 0.75%.

How do I go about gently approaching them with alternative options and can IM help broaden their understanding and share info on products you offer? I don’t want to give Nick’s email address out unannounced.

Thanks in advance

We are at risk of creating anxiety of checking in to this thread every 10 minutes to see if something new has come up and if we've missed a percentage or two. It's defo not helping when my investment plan still has over 10+ years to go
I try to keep an eye on the thread, but I do find myself missing a few pages. I've also made a habit of checking investment values no more than once a month, for the sake of my sanity. Now that my building soc have finally sent the money to my bank, and my bank have accepted that I want to send it elsewhere, I am hoping to get in before all the gains are made, though I have (as usual) faffed about for too long to be "in at the start". Still, I usually do my ISA at the end of March, so the preceding July is a positive step.

Thanks for the reply Nik.

I reckon to stop all the worrying the value updates should be pushed through once a week. Maybe show the Friday closing values on Monday morning.
Not a good idea, I wouldn't say I was worrying, but when others have reported an increase it is a little concerning not seeing it reflected on my dashboard.
The problem is it's turning IM into a trading platform, not an investing one. In general you should be looking at investment periods of years so whether you haven't seen a change for two days should be completely irrelevant. If you only had an update once a week you wouldn't be stressing over the lag in updates & the IM team could get on with helping other clients with their broader financial issue & planning. There aren't many of them & they'll run out of capacity at some point.
I don't see that being able to know the value of your money whenever you wish to know it is particularly far-fetched. Every bank current account does it and they're not trading platforms.

The issue here is the value changing but it not being shown for some reason. From many comments here it seems that the dashboard is a bit 'beta' and needs a shaking out so it runs smoothly without intervention. But Private Clients is a relatively new venture and PCs are a bit more demanding than IFAs who don't really care what it's worth because it's not their money and they get paid anyway.

Hi Eamonnn

Please excuse the banter above regarding a very stupid American website.

We can share information on all products with them, not just the ones we offer.

Sometimes this gives peace of mind that they are already in the right place. Other times it gives perspective on alternative options (IM or others).

If their FA is charging 0.75% a year of their invested wealth I would expect them to be providing a great deal of value for this. Unfortunately, this is often not the case though.

Please just send Nik an email (nik.burrows@intelligentmoney.com)and he will get back to you with all his contact details, enabling your parents to get in touch with him as and when it feels right for them.

All he will do is talk over things and explain them. Any decision will always be in their hands.

Cheers

Just out of interest rather than anything else. What % of peoples IM holdings are in PH-Recovery? I’ve made a few transfers over the past few days and am about 63% in PH-R across all our IM accounts.

What’s everyone else’s percentages? No need for actual willy waving ££££numbers ;-)

I moved over 20% of my existing holdings and something like 30% of my monthly SIPP contribution is going into it now.

I've got 7% of my total IM fund in PHR. This may increase ...

A mate of mine has about 25% in.

Just out of interest, what would sway your decision to increase it? I’d have thought the biggest gains are to be made earlier on?

To me that sounds a very high percentage given the much higher risk associated with the Recovery fund. Of course it depends on how much of your overall investments are with IM but I'd hate to think you'd got carried away with the prospect of doubling your money & gone all in. Personally I wouldn't go over 10% of my overall IM holdings. IANAIFA.

Currently total of 2.5% of pension and isas
Might drip some more in up to 10%.

63% seems to be a bit of a big gamble to me

Buster gonad territory...

Switched my full holding in Global Growth to Recovery.

Approx 12% of total holding.

Essentially the Global Growth was my fund of choice that was most volatile and most likely, in my view, to increase due any recovery in global markets.

When an actual recovery fund was launched made sense to me to punt it in there smile.

I’m 5.5% in PH recovery.

Would maybe go a couple of % more, but wouldn’t go any higher, based on the risk of the fund.
