Avoid the Cooper S, most of them are like trigger's broom by now... break down for a past time.

If you are going older, go Japanese for the reliability, just be diligent when checking for rust.

Thanks, Floydey for putting those three words together in a unique way! (I'm counting GTD as a word, just don't ask me how to pronounce it!

Only reason I said Cooper S was I had one about 6 years ago, a 56 plate with the turbo.
Was great to drive and I had it a few years with barely a problem, only chucked it in to swap out for electric (was doing 80 mile round trip daily, was able to chop in the 10 year old mini, no extra cash and got a brand new leaf, saving £50/month when considering petrol/etc).

Would be up for looking at others tho, maybe a Civic, but it needs a bit of fun to it and I'd be looking at £3k or so

Seems there is a great network on here for people offering honest, open and constructive help, sprinkled with a diamond here and there (last weeks read was the '3 week swimming pool' thread, which took me around 10% of 3 weeks to read through itself!
Glad to hear you enjoyed the pool thread, it was great fun doing it! biggrin

I bet even greater fun with this weather we are having right now.
I’ve got an £30 8ft pool for my 1 year old daughter in the back garden and I’ve enjoyed my time with her in it the past few days smile

Indeed, and glorious weather has never been better timed. Imagine this lockdown, but with grey wet misery outdoors.

Julian, been meaning to call, nothing specific just a catch up and a how you doing, as a Chinese man eating an under-cooked bat has stopped an IRL catch up. I'll give you a bell at some point soon, ironically we're busier than any time in recent memory ATM!

Yes it is, the lockdown isn't hard for us right now! biggrin

Congratulations on your daughter (I know that is a bit late now!) and I bet you have both had great fun. Kids of all ages (including me) love playing in water! smile

I wasn't actually being clear enough there. Work (business) is a good 80-90% down ATM, being consistently customer facing, and always having to be in peoples homes. S has severe Asthma too, so CV would be bad news for us, so I'm only doing jobs like the 350Z I did recently. He came to me, parked up the car, and cleared off. All said with payment holidays we're not struggling mind, it's just 'different'.

Where we're busy is on the (many) big jobs which have been queuing up, on the allotment (it is literally a stones throw from home, and more than large enough to be self isolating) and when they're all done on the house. I really feel for anyone who's home is a flat/apartment with no garden right now, they must be going stir crazy, or choosing to not comply with the rules.

Anyways, I'll get around to calling you at some point, when I get a window.

pibby how are you getting on after a couple of years now? Genuinely interested as reading this thread is genuinely heart-warming and not just an intention to bump an old thread smile

Afternoon. Can't believe it's been nearly 3 years already!

Things are going well thanks. Got sacked at the beginning of lockdown so that wasn't ideal (boss didn't want the burden of my salary just incase it got bad).

Have a new job now which is slightly less money but overall everything is going well, not quite to the point of being able to pay a certain someone back but even with absolutely everything rising to obscene levels, we're still doing OK.

Kids are doing great (my youngest starts proper school in September) and we've managed to get a EHCP plan so that's both of them with it now so when she starts school officially, she'll get a lot more help like my eldest does.

I've thought about updating this but wasn't sure.
Thanks again to everyone who posted, makes you realise how good PH can be.
