MSE has a list:

You need to work out if the cost of the account (ie £13/month with Nationwide) that includes"free" insurance is cheaper than buying a standalone policy.

I have this with Barclays however the “travel pack” costs £12.50 per month and also includes break down cover.

Strangely if I or my wife had it on our personal account it would only cover 1 of us; however, on our joint account it covers us both for the same cost.

Nothing is ever "free" ...you pay for it somewhere smile

I have really good travel insurance with a lloyds premium account, also has full AA cover

Convenient as its 2 less insurances to renew each year, cost is competitive considering the level of cover. I think it works out that the premium is similar to what it would cost me for the AA, so effectively the travel insurance is "free" ...also has mobile insurance and a few other benefits thrown in

Why only until 80?

Mine is free, but I do know the standard charge is £12 or so pm.

Because that's the policy terms.

I assume that at and beyond age 80 continuation is on whatever terms the insurer backing the policy wishes to apply, and it is likely to start costing me. Could be the time to seek alternative cover.

Nationwide Flex Account.
Presume you mean the Flex Plus Account? That's the one I use as, at £13 per month, I think it gives decent value covering car breakdown, mobile phone and travel insurance.

It was even better value until they stopped the interest payment in November last year. I was regularly getting £6-7 p/m which was helping offset the cost nicely. But it is still decent value if you can benefit from those other things and I’ve seen the travel insurance in action and it worked well in my family’s circumstances.

Part of the “travel pack” - I forget what this costs, but it’s not FOC.

Based on this link, I don't think it does for new accounts. The OP would need the Flex Plus account.

Yes, I agree. On the insurance aspect, I've claimed on the mobile phone insurance twice and both times the phones were fixed/replaced properly.

Travel insurance isn't particularly expensive and I'm not sure that I would determine which bank account to open on just that. I'd also check the conditions very carefully as it may well only offer the most basic of cover.

Be advised. None of these accounts cover pre-existing medical conditions.

I have a Barclays account that I pay the £12.50 for the travel pack which includes the top RAC cover,I worked it out that buying the breakdown cover and annual travel insurance would cost me more than through 'paying' for my bank acount.

People need to be wary though that a lot of breakdown cover that comes with a free account or tiny charge will have restrictions on cover.
