i just bought AA, was on my list at the weekend but I didn't bite. Missed the bottom probably but I still think it will be a solid performer in the medium term
Agree, although maybe more hope than judgement smile

I do sincerely hope you had more consideration on Melrose than my mutterings.
I sold out today when it went over 100 today. My holdings are mere fractions of what others transact so it's a nice bonus rather than life changing.

Good news on the other increases. Remember it's not profit till you cash in, till then it's just a possible gain in wealth.

Took a pseudo bet on oil and have been pleased to see this....

Opec producers and allies have agreed to cut output by more than a fifth to counter the slump in demand caused by coronavirus lockdowns.

The group said it would cut output in May and June by 10 million barrels to help prop up prices. The cuts will then be eased gradually until April 2022.

In my simple mind, this shoukd increase stocks of those related to oil, so hopefully PMO & GBK will benefit....
Very true!

I know GKN (main Melrose acquisition) reasonably well and believe they have good potential under a new regime, they are also well positioned as we move towards electric cars. I would have bought pre Corona if I’d thought of it, the sp now looks like an opportunity. Thanks for reminding me of them.

Ps. I had the same thinking on the oil investments and upped some holdings in that sector in advance of the discussions, Shane the agreement has currently pushed the oil price lower!

If able to hold, I am confident that oil will return off current levels. Just not as soon as we were hoping!

Seems that Mexico walked out of the OPEC+ discussions. Despite supply issues, demand remains massively reduced so upturn in prices will be muted. Apparently some grades of oil are zero or negative!
Brent crude isn't, so let's not get too concerned. Wti is a lot lower and the spread between them isn't normally as wide, so US centric stocks may be hit harder.

Musings again, so happy to be corrected.

Hope everyone has had a good bank holiday weekend, shame we weren’t able to fully enjoy the sunshine.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on this weeks big gamble?

I’m considering putting some money into Investec, not sure whether that’s going to be new money or just swap from an existing share..

I’m also thinking about buying more Metro Bank shares... definitely my worst performer by far... maybe I’m crazy.

The top 10 (by current value) shares that I’ve bought since the market dived in response to Covid-19 are all up apart from one - with increases ranging from 49% to just over 2%, my loser is down 5% or 6k and is the L&G UK index tracker. Obviously nothing is gained until realised and all of these bets could go sour on Monday!

My smaller gambles are about 50/50 up or down.

All of mine are up between 7 and 20%.

I’m thinking about going in deeper with Rolls. And maybe some more BP.
Good effort! I might buy into BP, already have a few oil stocks at the moment however BP may be better in the long term...

AA shares climbing fast today.... Anyone thinking of selling yet?
I’m up a decent amount and know I should take some profits... however, I’m going to stick with it and hope the ride continues...

I’m considering selling one of my indexes and putting it into one share... May sleep on this idea...

AML is on my mind. Obviously they couldn't have played their listing much worse, but on the upside the SUV is ready for production, with an order book matching their usual year total output and they've just developed a new in-house engine.

Having lived and worked across the ME and Asia I can see the DBX being lapped up. Probably in the US also. Lack of hybrid is an issue.

Am I mad?
If I hadn’t already put in a 6 figure sum then I would be going in now, I’m still thinking about putting more in however just don’t know whether it’s good money after bad.

What sort of ammounts are folk on here puting into each stock. Those in AA or BP £100-£500-£1000- £5000? Or are you all much bigger players?
Bit of a spread but going larger to take advantage of Covid volatility with an aim to ride out any drops.

Capita 745000 shares
AA 550000
BDEV 22000
Cine 97000

Etc

Do we think we’ll have a large dip tomorrow after the news of the lockdown extension this evening?
Think the markets have assumed an extension, would be surprised if anyone was surprised.

FTSE futures point to positive movement - I bought another tranche of Capita and Innovaderma today on the dip.

Where are you buying IDP? It doesn’t show on my broker site or on Trading212?
Buying through HL - difficult to get a price sometimes, end up buying in chunks.

I’m reading lots about Aston going up to £1 a share on Monday. It’s 51p at close. If it’s in the 40’s tomorrow I might buy some more and put a sell on it just in case it goes pear shaped. Hold on to your hats
I bought another lot of AML yesterday, however, I’m starting to think that I’m throwing good money after bad - bought to bring my average down, however, the market seems to be able to reduce the share price faster than I can reduce my average!

Are you reading that on forums where people own a lot of AML shares?!
The forums do provide some entertainment, rather randomly the people who appear to own the stock think that the share price is going to rocket. Those shorting it all have inside information indicating that the sp will drop like a stone - what are the chances? wink

Investec does look fairly cheap currently... Anyone else tempted or able to provide more insight?
I'm tempted too - any insights ?
Bought some INVP yesterday as a 1 yearish hold. +8.6% at the time of writing which is nice.
That’s a good start!

I bought in and with today’s gains I’m back to break even.

I bought into Hyve today, been heavily impacted due to being in the events and conference game however should hopefully weather the storm - potential cap raise will hopefully include retail investors if it happens.
