The thread is quite clear on IM opening post on page 1.

"This is basically what it says on the tin. This thread is where we can carry on as before from the last thread with the usual comments, feedback and banter"

smile
The thread title also does state "your investment questions answered".......
Whenever I've seen anyone ask a question, it's always been answered by someone at IM.

Why is No Fun Allowed?

It's not about a lack of fun. Its the fact if you visit the thread looking for information you have to wade through a ton of in jokes by a small number of people. It's difficult to find relevant information and I think is quite alienating.

For me this thread should be about Investments and another thread in lounge can be for the banter. The other alternative is people just dont bother looking at the thread and then miss out on potentially valuable information and/or potential clients look and leave quite quickly.

Just my 2p anyway.

Quite correct, and the financial questions are answered very quickly.

The point was there are some who think there should be no banter on this thread when banter is clearly part of the thread...................

I may be missing something but there are 4 clearly marked IM threads for specific financial questions where there is an abundance of information on all aspects be it pension, ISA, tax planning etc.......in the main IM Financial Threads.

I’m with NorthDave here, I couldn’t have put it better myself. A year or so back, it was an investment discussion with the occasional quick joke thrown in, and now it’s the polar opposite - and very cliquey at that. You really can’t see the wood for the trees in here now.

From IM’s business/marketing perspective, I think this thread would deter new investors if they stumbled across it, because of where it’s located and how it would be perceived to be pitched if you hadn’t read previous other threads.

I’m not trying to be a killjoy, but if I posted, say, scooter riding cartoons in the Supercars section, I’d expect to be pulled up for it.

I guess the simple answer is just to use email to ask Nik and Steve if there’s anything we need to know.

Absolutely, I am always happy to help and I do try to reply promptly, some questions may require a little privacy.

Not being pedantic, but why not post the question on one of the 4 Main IM threads ?

I posted last week in one of the 4 main threads, question answered quickly by IM with another poster following on to the question.

Personally I think the 4 specific IM threads are the best place to ask a question, they are easy to follow through as they are specific to an area and have no "banter"

And I’m also happy to accept that I might be missing something too, but those threads are quite specific to each topic, aren’t they? Where’s the thread for “so, IM, what are the broader investment plans in the short/mid/long term”……..”so, IM, how do you think Event X will affect the markets and investments overall” …… etc?

OK, we are detracting from the thread.

While I’d have agreed in the past, I just don’t see anyone asking these things here and they leak out into Finance generally.

And personally if I have questions for IM as a potential investor or an ongoing one, I contact them directly.

I’d also argue that for everyone put off by banter, there are an equal amount attracted by it.

What seems important is that if you’re on here, be prepared to wade through lots of information that isn’t relevant to what you might be looking for.
Even when things remain quite on-topic, information you want can be quickly lost pages away.

Yes it’s not perfect. Is anything?

exactly although would say if anyone posts a question to IM here is answered pretty much asap by coops or whoever has the crayon that day and there are the "no fun allowed" IM finance rooms if you prefer those as well.

Or by one of the many knowledgeable posters who also post a bit of general banter as well.

Trawling through the thread to re-post year-old posts seems pretty bad form. He, and a number of others, have already said they'd prefer less banter, and a number of others have disagreed. No need to make it personal.

I’m all for the banter, chat and photoshopped pets.

But I don’t always follow the other threads so some actual IM stuff is good as well so I know what the latest options and views are on the money stuff thumbup .

Since we are ok with barely on-topic stuff, we are out again in the IM Racing Cayman this weekend at Cadwell Park woohoo .
