Enjoying Retirement

<clip> RichB , writing a book sounds a great part of retirement and I’m assuming isn’t really your normal work background?
Nice one
No I was a software chap, started as a techie, then sales, then a director of a business. I've written a few thousand words for software magazines or websites and I write a monthly piece for a car club but never an entire book. The publishers sent the contract a couple of days ago so I'm at the deep end now. Nice one

I once drove a 308, had a similar problem. I’m 6ft 4 with size 12 feet. Could press all the pedals at once with my big toe and had to take the roof off to get my head in
Saw the Aston, very nice.
I used to own an Exige and had to take the roof out to get in and out daily. Nothing to do with being tall, I am 5’10, more to do with be inflexible and aging!Saw the Aston, very nice.
I think it remains one of the coolest cars that I have ever owned.

Cracking cars . I had an S2S Exige and wish now it was the one car I never sold . Buttons to run but the most fun to drive . I think it remains one of the coolest cars that I have ever owned.
I did manage to get in and out but then that was 10 years ago !
Great memories and footage of track days at Spa
We are currently sitting on the banks of Loch Lubnaig in a wooden cabin in the forest. It is a tad warm but the breeze from the loch is very pleasant. Certainly beats the office
Good news just received from our architect that planning permission has been granted for an extension to the house. The house is a traditional stone built farm house and we are going to construct a wooden clad single pitch extension which has a glass connecting corridor from the main house,
One of the rooms has a large corner window over 2m high which should give the most amazing views over the mountains.
We don’t strictly need the space but thought it would be something exciting to do having never done anything like this before. We have the builder ready to start early July subject to getting the structural engineers confirmation of foundation depths and so on.

That sounds fabulous. Building plans are exciting too. Creating something new that will outlast you both. Kids do that too but construction is a very rewarding thing to do.Good news just received from our architect that planning permission has been granted for an extension to the house. Don't laugh, I spent the last three days renovating an old wooden door that leads from our garden out into the woods. It's known as Caine's Gate because we were told by the lady we bought the house from that it came from Michael Caine's garden. There's another gate called Lodge Gate elsewhere in garden. As a kid on a Sunday I used to go for picnics in Richmond Park with my mum and dad. This is my little nod to those days - if you know Richmond Park you'll get it! Back to the gate, it was fairly dilapidated so I was pretty chuffed with the result.

I really like that, nice renovation job too. My wife was a horticulturalist and garden designer and she always goes on about having interesting unexpected features in a garden, and this is just the thing.R.
Nice job Rich...looks great.
Had back problems waking me up early and just throwing off a bit of a cold/sore throat, so I'm taking it easy today as we have...drum roll...a band rehearsal tonight. New singer who we auditioned a few weeks ago and does advert jingles, plus voice over work for a living. Tonight we're trying out a new drummer, so hoping that this will be the start of our band Mk2 and we can start working towards some gigs we had to postpone earlier this year.
Should be able to test out my new spray gun soon once some thinners arrives so I can properly clean it afterwards. Some metallic blue on the Ka then some solid red on the Fiesta. Basically using 'smart repair' paint, so not expecting a massive lifetime, but it'll do for these cars. I'll use good old fashioned cellulose to blow in some repairs on the RS when the time comes...sometime around 2055 I expect.

Nothing as fancy as Rich's garden gate, but a small milestone today: My first bit of car spraying for a lot of years. Granted I've done a fair few guitars in recent years, but this was back doing the 'proper stuff'.
New SIP spray gun, which is the new fangled HVLP type, so it doesn't turn the garage into a massive fog of spray paint. Very efficient in putting the paint on to the item (I had loads left after doing some bits on the Ka, so the tin is still nearly full!). A small disaster with the Fiesta bumper not taking the red basecoat, despite it being advertised as 'primed' so I let it dry, sanded it down again to remove the red paint/runs on the small test area. I mixed up some grey primer and it's looking a lot better now:
Will sand it down tomorrow and see if I can get some base coat red on it. Maybe put some clearcoat on the Ka too, depending on the weather as that is outside.
Yes my 'spraying stand' is the RS2000. It's well covered, plus it'll need some paintwork once the welding is done anyway...at least I'm getting in practice.
